So while we were in Bali, we decided to take up surfing. None of us ever surfed before, so we went to take lessons there and paid a not-so-wallet-burning sum for a whole day’s worth of tutoring! The first thing they got us to do?

Board humping! lol nah we were taught step-by-step instructions on how to get on the surf board while being rolled around like joints by the huge waves they have here in Kuta beach! Oh the super skinny guy in red happens to be the coolest instructor ever… He can speak every language we know plus more! Then again, we found out later that almost everybody there can speak languages from Japanese to Spanish and all that’s between it. Sien -_____-

So without further ado, equiped with the knowhows of saving our lives should we get washed away by the Kuta waves, we strode purposefuly to the treacherous beach with our lives on the line…

Now, for the first try:
 

Climb on board before the waves come and lie flat on it, supporting your balance by holding the board at the sides, your legs poised to stand.
 

As the waves pick you up from behind, use the rush to push yourself forward, legs prepared to move forward as you force your body upwards with your arms.
 

This part is usually the hardest to do, once you’ve done it though, you’ve pretty much got the hang of it. Ok, that sounded too easy lol. Btw, don’t mind my fat round ass, you’ll see worse after this.
 

When you finally managed to stand up, you have to balance yourself while keeping the board riding high with your (flailing) hands.
 

Then be prepared to fall. Because you’re going to fall. Over and over again. Cannot escape one.

OK jokes aside, I really wanted to learn surfing for its uber-coolness factor. The next few shots below will successfully show you how I enchanted this super-hot european lady clad in bikini who could not help but stare at my awesomeness.

That’s because I turned invisible for a moment there as I did a graceful fall into the deep blue ocean and I will leave my story on how I escaped the deep blue sea to find my bikini-clad hot european lady for another day.
 

Sigh who was I kidding. I should have done what Kenny did. I just don’t get it though. Who’d know that something like this will get him to bed Dawn Yang in a sexy hotel at Paris, France? Envy sia.

Last month alone they secured 3 premier screenings which I went for, but my favourite was House Bunny which was just last week. It ended with such a fantastic note that I didn’t want to go home and just hang out with some friends instead, just like Zoe who didn’t manage to make me bow when I offered her a chance of a lifetime haha!.

That’s how I got to meet the bunch of bloggers that I’ve never met before, all except Josh la whom I’ve gotten quite acquainted with over several events, including Passion 2008, right after the Malaysian Student Leaders Summit. Pic stolen from Josh lol.

It was really fun hanging out with WetWetWater, Andrew, Ren, Zoe and Josh at Ming Tien’s, after finding out that William’s was closed. What to do, Ramadhan month what haha… that’s the only reason why Ming Tien was also so packed at about 1am in the morning! All in all we stayed until I had to go first, leaving the original gang to themselves… I guess when you have a great company, staying up all night is nothing eh?

In any case, here’s some pictures on the first day of my Bali trip which I promised Clem I’ll blog about

UPDATE!

The four of us decided took AirAsia to Bali. Having my first intranational (is there even such a word?!) virgin flight, I was pretty excited to see AirAsia’s plane up close, though I should be used to this treatment (walking to our plane) after riding with EasyJet and RyanAir, just to name a few, back then when I was studying in London… Ah, the memories.
 

The ride was going to be short, say about 3 hours, so I had fun killing time with my DS, continuing my ever-going FF IV. In the meantime Cheesie decided to get some good reading done, though I’m not sure if her definition of “good reading” is anywhere near mine when I took a look at one of the pages of the book lolol. There were no other entertainment whatsoever, but that’s typical in budget airlines.
 

Kenny couldn’t resist his hunger for just 3 hours (God knows how he is going to run that marathon of his) so he got himself some Nasi Lemak, which he posted about here. He later got a visit by Tony Fernandes who invited him for an AirAsia event and flew him there for FREE. Hey, what about the rest of us la, invicible isit HAHA! Guess we are la. Damn that Kenny.

Anyway (sigh) the inside of the plane, though, are admittedly in a lot better condition then those you get overseas. Seriously, you don’t know until you actually compare that it’s as good as it gets with AirAsia. People can go ahead and complain but that’s how it is peeps. Now I wonder if Tony’s gonna read this and fly me to his next event haha. Okla I not so stingy, I invite the rest too
 

3 hours passed and we finally landed on Bali. The view outside as we landed was awesome okay, we couldn’t wait to go down and hit earth! When you see these 2 umbrellas inviting you into their corridor, you know you’re well safe in Bali

(soon we found out that there were many of such umbrella-ic temples around Bali, thanks to its Hindu heritage)
 

And only our lovable Kenny would do such a thing when everyone’s eyes cannot open liddat and are already falling out of its sockets. Crazy-ass fella got a cool sense of humour la I suppose heh

Eventually all time stops when you’re in this little garden located at the top of Bukit Tinggi, Pahang. The serenity of water fountains, the peacefully lush greens surrounding it and the ethereal beauty of the breeze flowing through your hair makes you forget the troubles of the world. It pays to enjoy the calmness of mind before embarking to the truth of reality out there, and with that, renewed vigour alongside as well. Why not give this place a little try?

Mini temples like these are often seen everywhere in Bali. There are certain rules that has to be obeyed should you want to enter these sacred sites, such as:

• Ladies who are having menstruation are disallowed from entering
• All must wear decently, including sarongs to cover your legs (which are borrowed free)
• I can’t remember the rest, too lazy to search

Nearby the area, there’s the famed Ubud market, near where we ate our Babi Guling. You can get lots of beautiful paintings here for a decent price, some like the above. In fact, you can get almost EVERYTHING there but at the same time, damn headache la, those guys will either con you outright, or mob you til there’s no tomorrow. One super big advice is… ALWAYS GO 1/3 or 1/4 the starting price or REGRET forever!

There were many odd statues you will find in Ubud. Such is the heritage there that many carvers spend their time carving these out of stones, not to be sold, mind you, but just out of pure artistic fun. As you can see Cheeso and Kenny can’t help but poke fun at other country’s heritage. Tsk.

That’s about RM200++!! Split between the four of us, that’s about RM50 la. Which, when you think about it, is really cheap since we had:

1) whole bbqed fish
2) portions of belacan kangkung (or something liddat la)
3) deep-fried calimari rings (okay not like, 3 pieces, but a whole lot ok!)
4) whole bbqed chicken (extremely yummy according to Icy)
5) bbqed sting-ray
6) coconuts, cocktails, aqua and “arak”, which btw, is NOT the arak we know!

But of course if you compare it to other warong foodstuff we ate, it’s filthily expensive la hehe. Check it out at Kenny’s site.

And this is what we DON’T pay for: the great ambience eating out in the seaside… light winds rustling through your hair, the little sea-breeze damping your skin giving off a cooling effect. All this and not a single mosquito bite on your body nor finding sands creeping into your food makes eating here a truly blissful experience. And no, I’m not exaggerating here

While testing for the correct lighting in this semi-dim romantica place, my model here agreed to pose which such enthusiasm that I also wanted to pose along. Aiya, what to do la when you put two camwhores together. Oh wait I didn’t just admit to being a camwhore did I?

I am NOT a camwhore. However, I am a self-proclaimed CAMPIMP. Campimps and camwhores are mutually exclusive, btw, as I will explain below:

Why? Because while camwhores take photos of themselves because they think they’re really gorgeous and the world should bow to their awesomeness.
I, for one, do not believe in such atrosity!

For me, I love taking pictures of people, sceneries and weird objects. Yes, I really do mean weird-looking objects. But since whenever I go around with my camera taking photos, everyone else naturally assumes that I’m THEIR photographer hence reducing the need for them to take pictures themselves. Now, I’m sure many of you have experienced this before.

So how do you deal with it?
 

You take pictures of yourselves of course! No one take for me I take myself la right! Makes sense right? You know I know la lolol.

The four of us could hardly finish what we ordered. We were even thinking of getting lobster as it as really cheap there, but thankfully we didn’t, seeing that it was more than enough for us. Coming from both fat-asses Kenny and me, it’s definitely a lot okay!

The serenading group that I was so awed with that I gave them a tip of Rp50,000 by accident, to which the others retorted as “silly” and commented that “they can pack up now and go home happy cos some dumb tourist gave them a day’s worth of work”.. Idiots! come on la guys at least we were happy ok!

and finally, this happens to be the entrance of this particular restaurant that we went to. I am standing where the taxi dropped us of (and that taxi, with its driver of course, is an entire different story altogether!) and this is the awesome view we got, together with the staff greeting us as if we were some royalties, welcoming us with… well, delicious welcome cocktails, gratis!

Needless to say, we truly had an amazing time at Jimbaran. I wouldn’t mind having another orgasmic explosion right here again, any time at all

Next up, weighing only X pounds and pushing up the average age in our group by a whopping 2 (that’s a big number with just 4 in our group okay!) and *gasps* having a foot size 3 is none other than IcyQueenGoddess herself!

Then we have the camouflaging Cheeso, who has no choice but to try and blend into the surroundings, otherwise we’ll get random strangers approaching us saying how pretty she is, whether she’s a japanese bla bla bla DAMN beh tahan lo, why attention not on kenny’s coconuts, or at Icy’s super small feet, or at my steven lim-ish face! growl! Some people just get all the attention sigh. Please go to her brog to find for better pictures, otherwise I know people will only come here to see her pictures. How can liddat la, won’t be true to my narcassistic self ok! Cheesus.

ok la i kid, expect to see more of her camwhoring pictures here, since my camera is practically filled with it. le sigh, who’s the biggest camwhore again?

And finally, lil’ ol me, who is proud to be the driver during the first half of the journey. Am pretty proud of it alright, Bali roads, wait, make that ALL OF INDONESIA’s, are probably one of the worst roads to drive around in! (comparable with Penang? Nay, even worse!) All those single lane roads, motorbikes that swarm like bees, super steep or extremely windy HUGE pot-filled uneven roads… just thinking about it gives me the ‘aye shiver me timbers!’ feeling ok stop being weird christopher tock

Well, this time, “there” refers to Bali, and everybody knows the two most sought after dishes in Bali are:

1. Babi Guling, and
2. Bebek Bertutu (or bebek bengil)

And since we were at Ubud, famed for the best “warung“s and its vast padi fields where ducks (that’s bebek in indonesian) live, it’s only natural that we found ourselves invited into the best restaurant that served the popular duck dish, that is, at the Bebek Bengil.

Yes, directly translated it also meant “Dirty Duck Diner“. Yes you’re allowed to lolol now lol.

1st we ordered our first dish, which is like vegetables and tofu in peanut butter sauce more commonly referred to as Gado-Gado, an Indonesian specialty.

It does taste as good as it looks, I swear upon my little belly button! A little warning though, notice those little chillies at the side? I accidently bit into one of those and turned into a fire-breathing freak that Kenny and Icy couldn’t seem to get enough of… sigh, don’t think they’ll ever let me off the hook. >(

And here’s presenting the main dish of the day: The Bebek Bertutu! Just take a good look at it and do becareful where your drool lands: you don’t want to send your computer to be fixed thanks to some nonsensical drooling reasons

The really crispy duck leaves nothing much to be said. Though skinny looking, the 4 of us were surprised by its tender meat and really enjoyed this dish. It came with 4 different sauces of a variety of spice levels, perfect for those enjoy spicy food and those who don’t too. Definitely met our expectations and many of us agreed it was one of the best places to eat!

The dish below is the Roasted Pork Ribs. Yes ladies and gentlemen, Indonesia maybe populated vastly by the muslim community, however, Bali itself has an ancient heritage dating all the way back to the old times, where ancestors were mostly if not all, Hindus. This is the reason why the Babi Guling (pork!) is also a speciality in Bali, if you didn’t already notice!

Not mouthwatering enough for you? Quite the impossible I should think haha… Damn, my travelog ALWAYS has to start with food first don’t it? Okay la I promise I’ll talk more about the other things we did next

But seriously, take another look at the pork ribs above, and if you can tell me with a straight face that you can actually resist them, I’m willing to be your slave for a day!

What exactly is she looking at? No la its not the ball-y thing below. No no what were you thinking la!

It’s her Gnocchi which she was all crazed up about. But wth right, who in the right mind goes to an Indonesian restaurant and orders italian dishes like Gnocchi?! Okay la if she wants Gnocchi we all go Italy la okay? haha… So doods and gals, no Italian food pls when you’re in Bali. Get one of these wooden puzzle balls instead for just Rp10,000. Or was that for 4? lol
