It’s Sunday again and I usually spend my time eating away if I’m not working or at the gym!
I am generally a person who picks vegetables, fruits and cakes as snacks whenever I could, which means I chow vegetables like I own it all whenever I could. Yet during office time, I TRY to snack healthier like yogurt bar, yogurt, fruits and well! CORN!
As you all know I have psoriasis problem which makes my food group really limited, so I have always been frequenting Daily Fresh next to my office for some corn in the cup at times. Not until I was so lucky to be invited to Daily Fresh Food Review.

How could you not know about Daily Fresh? They are established since 1997 and famous for their corn in cup and later on the extensions to more snacks! Let me share the 5 items I’ve discovered!

1. Gelato Tempo

Gelato Tempo
(So Sorry, the outlet in R&R Sg. Buloh is slightly warm. Hence, the gelato melted pretty fast upon served)

I’m a Gelato lover! My record in Italy was 4 Gelatos a day for an amazing 10 days in my trip over Italy. (Thank GOD my stomach was great and never had any misfortune happened throughout the trip!) So having more Gelato is of course a blessing to me especially during the hot weather. Daily Fresh brought the recipe from Italy to allow all their consumers to taste real Italian Gelato without the need to travel to Italy! What’s best is there’s a promotion during Ramadhan month! Gelato Tempo is selling at RM 4.90 with FREE TOPPINGS between 27 June 2014 – 4 August 2014!
Hurry and don’t miss it!

Retail Price
Daily Fresh Gelato Tempo without Toppings – RM 5.90
Gelato Tempo with Toppings – RM 6.90

Flavours Available:
Black Sesame,Green Tea, Chocolate, Mango, Strawberry, Honeydew, Yogurt original, Yogurt Strawberry, Yogurt Mango.

2. IceKimo

Baby too wants some IceKimo!

IceKimo is a choice if you prefer non-dairy flavored cold snacks. They are made out of fresh fruits and ultra smooth, finely shaved ice that refreshes your tongue and sense. I find it pretty sweet with the toppings, so try to mix it up with the ice underneath too and they’ll taste just right!

Retail Price
Daily Fresh IceKimo – RM 4.20

Flavours Available:
Fruits Series: Mango, , Pineapple, Soursop, Strawberry and Honeydew.
Other Series: Chocolate, Mocha, Vanilla

3. Cupcorn

Cupcorn in variety flavours. (Clockwise Sequencing): Flaky Chilli, Garlic Cheese, Mayonnaise and Original

A Daily Fresh scooping out fresh corns for us! The one in Sg Buloh R&R are friendly with a smile on them all times too (Kid you not)

Cupcorn is no doubt Daily Fresh’s iconic product. Daily Fresh’s corn are grown by it’s sister company Mah Yong in Johor before being processed into the fresh corns for consumers by using Whole Kernel “Non-Cut” technique to ensure freshness, hygiene. Daily Fresh’s corn promises users corns free of colouring and preservatives, synthetic chemicals; most importantly the golden coloured and sweet juiciness of each corn kernel are retained.
I have always been loving the original flavour. However, I tried all the flavours and even invented my new love:
Flaky Chilli + Garlic Cheese = Less spicy as the cheesy flavour neutralizes the spicy flavour and it became much more bearable!

NOTE: The Flaky Chilli is indeed QUITE SPICY. Try it and tell me what you think.

Retail Price
Daily Fresh Original Cupcorn – RM3.50
Daily Fresh Flavoured Cupcorn – RM4.00

Flavours Available:
Flaky Chilli, Garlic Cheese, Mayonnaise, Condensed Milk and Original is priced at RM3.50

4. WAFITO

Wondering what’s the difference of it with other waffles? Wafito is a Premium Waffle who got its name from WAffle, FIlling, TOpping. It’s a result of flavoured waffle with fillings. You heard it right! The bite of the waffle itself is already tasty and best of all, it comes with a variety of yummy flavours too! The unique flavours are a must tried especially the Chicken Floss and Coco Deluxe (Highly recommended by Jingy)

Retail Price
Daily Fresh WAFITO Classic – RM3.50
Daily Fresh WAFITO Premium – RM4.50

Flavours Available:
WAFITO Classic: Margarine, Blueberry, Strawberry, Kaya, Peanut Butter and Chocolate. (You get to mix any of the 2 flavours)
WAFITO Premium: Chicken Floss, Coco Deluxe, Pandan Kaya, Japanese BBQ and Nyonya Kaya.

5. Secret Pop (PopCorn)

These are premium “MUSHROOM POPCORNS” that you won’t find it in cinemas outlets, at least not with the affordable price.
Secret Pops kernels are imported from Indiana, US (yup! not locally) which guarantees bigger and crunchier corn snack. Comes in 5 yummy flavours and we guarantee you’ll love the texture as much as the price!

Retail Price
Daily Fresh “Secret Pop” Popcorn – RM6.90 – RM7.90

Flavours Available:
Black Sesame, Spicy Curry, Seaweed, Honeydew, Caramel (All flavours are priced at RM6.90; Caramel Flavoured is priced at RM7.90

Note: Secret Pop is N/A is Sunway Pyramid Outlet

While I have to give disclaimer that all the food presented here was sponsored by the company, it is no secret that I’ve always been in love with their food as I constantly visit their branch at Tropicana City Mall (where my office is) if I can afford it

So this is how it looks like from the front!

Guess what we had? Fried Chicken Skin – super sinful but extremely yummy, especially if taken with Soju!

Okay I admit I’m not much of a drinker. However if you’re talking about FOOD infused with GUINNESS in however creative way possible, oh boy am I game for it!

Thing is, Saint Patrick’s day is here to come and what’s a better way than to celebrate it with delicious Guinness-infused sweet and mature tasting food at Malones, the Irish center in KL Sentral?

Let’s get on to the review shall we? Made possible thanks to the guys at @NuffnangMY and GAB!

Malones will be having a special menu dedicated to St Patrick’s Festival which is happening this week till the 17th of March (Saint Patrick’s Day itself!) which is really decently priced and best eaten with a pint of Guinness. Do check their website for more information, or join their Facebook page. Otherwise, proceed below for mouth-watering pictures *drools*

But before that, allow me to to share with you how easy it is to get there, as I was there for a meeting with the PwC guys for quite a number of times already- just take the LRT to KL Sentral, then walk aross the road to Sooka Sentral – simple, cheap, easy, no fuss!

Ooooh look at the beautiful pint of Guinness, black is the new gold indeed! By the way apparently Malones is (so far) the only Irish pub in town that is pork-free. I’m sure some friends I know who don’t eat pork will be much more comfortable in here (despite having alcohol around, yes :P)

In any case, let me introduce the others who were invited as well, beginning with this really friendly guy whom is well known in the world of bloggersphere and journalism…

Presenting JasonMumbles (and his line of Guinness froth at his lips ROFL!) – this guy is one humble dude and I’ve yet to know anyone who’s made an enemy out of him (and vice versa!). Makes a perfect company to go makan-makan with as he’s a super foodie so do visit him at his blog and leave a note ps- he blogged about it here.

Also there was Suanie and KY, one was my ex-wife (but still the friendliest blogger in Malaysia) and the other, a flogger/foodie who if you’ve not yet come to know, it just means you’re dumb LOL. The ones on the right are Hui Ping of G2, and May of Malones of whom we had the pleasure to meet. Thanks for being such great hosts!

Suanie has already blogged about her experience here, while KY’s is here.

Now that’s out of the way, let’s head to the dishes. First we had the Guinness Beef Stew (RM29.90). What is it? Seared beef cubes stewed in Guinness and root vegetables for 4 hours. Served with slices of tuscan bread topped with basil. While the bread provides a tasty treat by itself, you just can’t help but dip it into the thick, aromatic sauce that tasted so good. Each cube of beef lent a tender and sweet experience that makes you go wanting for more. As a fan of carrots, I loved how it blended well with the whole dish, so much so that you could taste the sweet & savoury flavour in every ingredient, nice!

Next up is the Guinness Beef Burger (RM24.90). What is it? Thick beef patty marinated in Guinness, served with pesto mayonnaise and fries. If I were you I’d just go for this, if not just for the brilliant patty and the pesto mayonnaise (a brilliant way to add a dash of green, a sign of St Pat’s touch here!). Not only is the burger soft and juicy, it is most importantly easy to bite into as well considering the size of the patty itself, topped with melted cheese. Huge cuts of fries are also fun to eat! (I had to ask for more mayo, best!)

After that orgasmic burgexperience, then came the long johns – with 3 different type of meat! As you can clearly see KY can’t help but drool over it, yucks

The Irish Sausage on Colcannon and Guinnness Onion Gravy (RM30.90) consisted of lamb, chicken and beef sausages with colcannon. Ah yes, the COLCANNON (mentioned in the title of this blogpost) has become my favourite way to eat my mash potatoes! What is a colcannon? It’s a traditional Irish dish made of mashed potatoes and cabbage, and it really adds a different texture to the mash- brilliantly done! As far as the sausages are concerned- it’s pick your weapon time. Chicken fans will not like the lamb sausages which could prove to be a little overpowering in taste, but as a lamb lover, it was definitely my favourite! The beef came second due to it’s juicy bites and chicken, the last. The whole dish was put together wit an amazing gravy which I lapped up heartily (much to the dismay of my fellow reviewers :P)

Oh and before we move on, note this little green clover. It’s not exactly the lucky clover (of 4 petals) but hey, it’s cute, no? It’s eatable, so do try it

Finally (as we didn’t get to try the brownies that time) came the Malones Beef Ribs with Guinness Sauce (RM29.90). What is it? Braised beef rib with spices, cooked in a low-flamed oven and served with mashed potatoes. Meat galore. Easy to eat. Tender. Juicy. Lacking of sauce but hey, each spoonful is an orgasmic experience. By far my favourite dish and the most worth it (seriously) so do take this up, and let me know how it went for you, cause I can’t remember what happened to me apart from the explosion of taste and texture in my mouth. Only thing I wished is for the green mash potatotes (it’s pesto, btw) to be replaced ith Colcannon. Nothing beats that one, serious!

Oh God, that was brilliantly wonderful. Now to just sit back and enjoy my pints of Guinness

Again I repeat: this special menu will be available at Malones from now till St Patrick’s Day (17th march). On that day itself, that you can join in, which will depart from Malones @ The Curve at 6pm, and you will get to eat and drink on the bus, all the way to your next 3 stops – Malones KLCC, Malones Pavillion and finally Malones Sooka Sentral where the party continues all night long – all for RM99 nett! To summarize, it’s going to be free-flow of Guinness and food. Nuff’ said? Purchase your bus tickets from any of the Malones outlets then

[download id=”4″] Download the brochure here for your reference!

Overall it was a great experience here at Malones… The right ambience (dim, cooling), right crowd (the people who visit here are professionals- no annoying kids!) and of course, a great makan company will always make everything better for us. Thanks Jason, KY and Suanie – it was great having a good makan time with you guys.

It’s Christmas Season
in Starbucks!

A bunch of us were invited to a food (and drink!) review at Starbucks Damansara Utama and I was more than thrilled to accept the invitation! Later when I knew it was going to be a Christmasy affair, I became a nostalgic wreck thinking of the good old days in London, where it would be very cold at this time of the year and Starbucks became one of the best places to warm up to sip a mug of hot chocolate <3

It's Christmas time baby!

It was pretty obvious the place was done up, and I suspect not just at this branch. In fact, Christmas seems to be everywhere extra early this year!

After so long I bumped into Shaz Mukhtar, a great friend and company, who I haven’t been seeing for ages due to my busy schedule. He’s been very patient with me and I really hope I can return his efforts this coming Christmas for being the dearest friend I’ve ever had throughout my problematic life :))

Okay maybe not true, but here’s a Merry Christmas to you!

Our reserved area!

Okay moving on to the drinks! The two new drinks on board the Christmas menu are Christmas Toffee Nut Latte & Peppermint Mocha and I chose the latter purely because I wanted something minty, and it was! Yummy, smooth and delicious, I finished my Grande in a blink of an eye.

When I first twitted about going to AHROY Thai Cuisine thanks to BBO, there were quite a number of surprising response from the twitterville claiming that it’s one of the best Thai restaurants there is! This only fueled me to accept the offer and brave the jam-packed Pasar Malam night last Friday to find this can’t-be-missed restaurant, located just opposite Leisure Mall, beside Hong Leong Bank at the corner.

Now the first thing that would come to your mind when having Thai cuisine would be their tom yam soup, isn’t it? Well, the above happens to be their Tom Yam Seafood Soup (Red), prized between RM20 (S), RM28 (M) and RM38 (B) which are pretty reasonable! In this case, however, their tom yam proved to be inferior especially when it came to their specialties! Many thanks to our gracious host we all got to try most of them, all reviewed below

This, happens to be one of their most authentic Thailand dishes, called the Thai Traditional Leaf Wrapped Savouries (Mieng Kam) @RM15. This dish consists of small cubes of lime, roasted nuts, imported dried shrimp (oh it makes a WHOLE lot of difference!), dry roasted coconuts hand-chopped, shallots, chillies and ginger surrounding their specially home-made tamarind sauce, as seen in the pic above. The leaf used to eat this with, is called betel leaf which is apparently known to reduce the level of bad cholesterol in human’s body. Sounds like a healthy alternative to snacks, no?

And this is how you turn the betel leaf into a cleverly shaped cup for you to stuffed the ingredients into before popping the delicious morsel into your mouth. Cute and dainty isn’t it?

But I digress. We should probably start with the appetizers first which were served before the main courses.

We were first given Tapioca with Coconut Milk @RM6 to start, and as per recommended by the restaurant, it was indeed a delicacy of it’s own class. The simple dish required some secret ingredients which the owner insist is a trade secret, and rightly so too as we soon realize how special it is with the spongy texture, sweet demure taste topped with fresh cream! A definite must to try

Now THIS is a dish worth craving for. The Cashew Salad here is to DIE for. One just have to take a bite into a mouthful of crispy fresh lettuce stuffed with a lemony mix of sweet roasted cashew nuts, dried prawns, shallots, roasted old coconut and others that brought out the zesty zing out of the concoction.

But I guess pictures tell more than words, innit? A bite like this is enough to send you in an out of body experience lol!

Okay enough raving about the Salad. Let’s take a look at another of AHROY’s specialty, called the Octopus with Special Sauce @RM10. To prepare a dish like this one requires fresh squids as it’s not really cooked. Eaten with a special lemony sauce spread all over, it becomes a crunchy and zesty snack that you can’t seem to stop eating

Cockles Salad @RM12, to be honest, would probably be my mother’s favourite dish. Fresh and doused in lemoney sauce, these morsels tasted fine so I’m all good :p

Steam Fish in Thai Style (seasonal price) – The above is the “before” pic.

This is after it’s been steamed using a very traditional device that utilizes charcoal to bring the flavour out of all the ingredients, making the soup really, really tasty! Yum

We also had the Golden-Brown Stuffed Crab In Shell @RM10(2 pcs) which was a concoction of crab meat and mixed herbs that gave it an aromatic smell together with a savoury taste that lingered on our tastebuds. Its sweet flesh seemed to leap out there and then

A definite must to order in any Thai restaurant, the Pandan Leaf Chicken @RM13 (5 pcs) became my favourite way to tell if the Thai cuisine is really worth trying or not. My verdict: a definite YES! The wrapping, while not the original style, has been modified to enclose the pieces of thigh meat (yes, THIGH, yums!) really tightly with special house herbs to retain the juices while it is cooked, giving the pieces of meat an unrivalled wholesome, herb-filled aroma and taste!

Go for this one, I bet my life on it

Go for Deep Fried Crispy Kang Kong @RM8 (S) | RM12 (B) if you’re looking for a quick snack, especially for the young ones. They will love this dish, especially when dipped in their home-made sauce made of chilli, lime, onions and squids!

</
p>

Steam Squid in Lime Juice @RM25 also happens to be their specialty dish. The seemingly plain-looking dish is actually a power-packed lime-infused squid fest cooked so perfectly that its texture can’t be defined as too springy or two chewy. It’s right in the middle!

Of course you’ll also find the usual Thai menu such as the Green Curry Chicken @ RM15 (S) | RM25 (B) filled with coconut goodness, best eaten with hot steamed rice.

Tub Tim Krob a.k.a Water Chestnuts with Coconut Milk (Red Rubies) @RM5 need I say more?

They also have Thai Otah-Otah in Banana Leaf @RM8 (2 pcs), which happened to be a favourite of a few returning customers. I can’t figure out why, maybe you can tell me

Remember the leaf? It’s been made to wrap these morsels of meat to create this dimsum-ish dish, nicely eaten with Thai chilli sauce

Once again I have to impress on you the goodness of the Thai Traditional Leaf Wrapped Savouries (Mieng Kam) featuring the Betel leaves which are really hard to find, and yet, the owner constantly looks for it because they know that it’s a delicacy that can only be obtain here. Refreshing!

Om nom nom!

Once again thanks to Sidney and Sunny of BBO for the invite, and well met Yew Li of about-uli.blogspot.com! Read her entry here, she took really gorgeous photos!

To be honest, after the session I told myself that though the recipes and method of cooking used here may not necessarily be the most authentic way, they have certainly took painstaking efforts to strive as the best Thai food served in the area, if not the whole of Klang Valley. Lots of respect for them, especially as they work with Thai Tourism as well among other things.

I would most definitely come back here again, if not with Annabel who’s parents know their boss. Possible to get discount, yes?

Just before leaving for the Tali Tenang event by United Colours of Malaysia and RandomAlphabets, I was privileged to be given a chance to have breakfast at the “old” Jarrod & Rawlins outlet at Damansara Height, which has probably undergone a huge cosmetic change as of now. What would I give to visit it again, especially after a very thoughtful Elaine decided to take a few of us, namely YapThomas, JoshuaOngYS and the popular KampungBoyCityGal to have a try at their ALL DAY breakfast set instead of their sausages which they are popular for.

So we do not hesitate when ada rezeki, I always say. Greeting me at the gorgeous set up (perfect for private functions, too, if I may add) was a sight to behold that would have whetted a thousand appetites in one go, ah, but I’m just exaggerating.

The J&R Special – “The Full Works” (RM34) consists of two organic eggs sunny side up, with two sausages, bacons, grilled tomato, hash brown, mushroom, Heinz baked beans, toast or fried bread served with coffee or tea and orange juice. Enough to feed an active body for the day, especially since I was up with a huge task of controlling a crowd of 200 walking through the streets of Bangsar.

The hash brown isn’t what you’d normally get from McDonalds; it’s the real deal. Eaten along with the tasty bacon bits, pieces of nicely grilled sausages and wrapped in Heinz baked beans, I assure you it is a breakfast fit for the rich! (Though at RM34 it’s still affordable la :p)

J&R’s Egg Benedict Indulgence (RM28) however is something a little lighter than the “Full Works”. Made of two soft poached organic eggs with your choice of bacon, smoked salmon or ham (in this case, I chose Smoked Salmon!) on toast topped with Hollandaise Sauce served with coffee/tea and orange juice could just be fulfilling enough for you, especially if you’re looking for something lighter and easier to handle. I assure you their Hollandaise sauce is creamy and tasty, and certainly did go well with the smoked salmon, eggs and hot fresh toast

However I managed to miss the Egg Florentine (RM28) which came very early, yes, before I was awake :p – organic soft poached duck egg on a bed of spinach and hash brown base topped with Hollandaise Sauce served with coffee/tea and orange juice. KampungBoyCityGal covered it so head over to their website to see what it’s all about!

Now THIS is what I’ve been raving about: the J&R hangover special (RM35), which is a piece of bacon and egg “butty” with an Alka Seltzer and a Bloody Mary. What more could you ask for with a pounding headache threatening to make you throw up at any point of time?

The “butty” is made so simple, and yet each egg and bacon pieces cooked in such splendour, that it makes for a perfect accompaniment to the Bloody Mary that will help sooth the throbbing headaches and stomach pains.

An actual Alka Seltzer is given to us for us to dump it into water, which we would then drink up in order to sooth the pain and remove the “air” in the stomache.

But when combined with Bloody Mary, everything suddenly seem so right. These 3 maketh the J&R hangover special which will definitely make a big impact to the industry, so, what have they gotta lose!

After having our scrumptious breakfast meal at Jarrod & Rawlins we found ourselves taking a last look at the alcoholic section, while the meat chopping section had to go about living as per normal.

Din Tai Fung is not a stranger at all in the world of Taiwanese cuisine as it is considered one of the best globally. The latest branch to appear in Malaysia happens to be in Pavilion on the 6th floor, where TGIF is located, and for that we really should rejoice!

And why is that, you say? That’s because Din Tai Fung does not only consistently keeps check with the quality and taste of the food they serve to be equivalent, if not better than their counterpart in Taiwan, but also create a environment so that us as customers also get to feel the Taiwanese culture through and through!

The appetizers

Not only do the waiter and waitresses get sent to Taiwan to undergo strict (and fun) training, some (really hot, mind you) Taiwanese are actually brought here too to observe the correct customs and to ensure none of Taiwanese culture is diluted in any way at all. Everything from their greeting style, language to the way the food is served concisely explains their culture to us customers, therefore giving us a rich experience of dining in Taiwan!

In any case, let’s get you through some exquisite Taiwanese dishes that is sure to whet your appetite for this coming Chinese New Year!

Japanese Cucumber

The imported cucumber retained its crunchiness even when it’s soaked in yummy soya and sesame sauce, giving a sweet-like savoury feel with every bite. Very, very special flavour, must try

Special Appetizer – Sour Spicy Seaweed

This mix of sour taufoo, seaweed and spices is meant to whet your appetite for the dishes to come.

Spicy Jelly Fish

This very Thai-inspired dish is beautifully done and tasty as well. Don’t know how they can extract the essence of the flavours without adding additional flavourings on it…

Taiwan Century Egg

These century eggs all have runny yolks that tastes like heaven as soon as they get into your mouth. Laced with pickled ginger, every one of them is as addictive as hell!

Crab Meat & Pork Xiao Long Bao

Served piping hot, you can clearly taste the fine mix of crab meat and pork intertwined, their juices kept tightly within the special dough used to create the firm thin layer of protection.

The way to eat it is by picking it up on the TOP end without spilling its juices, dipping it into vinegar with shredded ginger and then carefully biting the thin but firm skin for the hot juices to flow into your mouth, pop in the dumpling and enjoy as it swirls its way around your mouth, touching your tastebuds with joy.

Shrimp & Pork Dumplings

Again, every morsel seem to contain a flavoursome piece of steamed juicy patties, a beautiful mix and mash of prawns and pork meat to form the dumplings. Once again, Din Tai Fung’s special flour was used to ensure firmness of the skin while still being able to be thin!

House Special Steamed Chicken Soup

Now if there’s anything I would come back for, it’s their House Special soup! Even I can’t imagine how something simple using really basic ingredients could taste so good without being too salty at all! The technique and equipment used ensured that the taste of every chicken pieces (4 lovely pieces to be exact) blended well into the soup, giving it a really premium broth that no words could even begin to describe! A definite must try, 5/5 stars!

Cha Jiang La Mien

The la mien, at first, I thought was too bland. But after a quick chat with the chef it was understood that the typical taste in Taiwan is mostly that; bland. Hence the healthy levels there are a lot higher compared to, say, the Western dishes. The problem was solved, however, when she poured a nice dose of vinegar (specially made from Taiwan) which then turned the whole dish into something amazing altogether!

The noodles were springy and looked like Japanese ramen, except NOT as springy. It tastes really clear as well, something I’d much prefer than an overpowering noodle taste, especially when eaten with clear broth.

Pork Chop Fried Rice

Very decent and typical dish consisting of a healthy portion of fried breaded pork together with fragrant fried rice. Best eaten with their chilli flakes too!

Baby Green Beans with Minced Pork

Crunchy and small enough to eat comfortably, one can never go wrong ordering this tasty dish. Good for health, too!

Mini Sesame Bun

These little bun comes with sweet black sesame filling, steamed like a bao. Even the paper that holds it underneath is imported because only then it wouldn’t stick to the wooden surface, which you will find in other dim sum outlets. This shows how much Din Tai Fung values even the smallest detail.

Red Bean Xiao Long Bao

Red bean filling instead of the usual pork dumpling, it is certainly a unique dessert to try, made possible only because of the special dough they use.

We finally end the day with a taste of their Sour Spicy soup which was exactly that; sour and spicy… and most definitely tasty! All in all it was a meal to remember by, thanks to the people at Din Tai Fung for making it such a pleasant experience, complete with their polite Taiwanese culture practiced all the way from the chefs to the waiters. Since I work really near, I’d probably come by again, ESPECIALLY for their House Special Steamed Chicken Soup, YUMS!

This year’s Chinese New Year started with a blast for me, even before it came! Thanks to Big Boys Oven we’ve been getting non-stop offers to go for CNY promotions almost every day, and today I will be sharing with you Four Season’s New Year Chinese “Poon Choi” Set (虎年盆滿鉢滿庆新春)!

Featuring the above, this is one dish that is very popular among the Chinese. In one look you can see that in the Special Four Seasons Hong Kong Style “Poon Choi” (文興金牌盆菜) there are Braised Chinese Mushroom, Sea Cucumber, Fish Air Bladder, Fried King Prawn, Garlic Dried Scallop, Dried Oyster Ball, Sweet & Sour Fish, Four Seasons Roast Duck (I know Boss Stewie would kill for this!!!) Crispy Pork, Garlic Chicken Leg, Dongfen (see-through thin noodles that is used to absorb all the mix juices at the bottom, TASTY!!), Chinese White Cabbage, Dried Bean Curd, Sweet Pea and Brocolli. Phew I thought it’d never end!

Before that, though, we were given Mixed Seafood in cabbage for appetizers. Yummy and crunchy, goes best with Chilli Oil, these little morsels only serves to whet your appetite for bigger main dishes!

Also we made sure we had cooling drinks after all the heaty (but super delicious) food we’d get with the “Poon Choi” set, as listed below. Beware: do not DROOL over your keyboard, Spinzer.uS will not be held responsible for the electrocution of yourself nor your laptop/desktop!

As shown above, the Special Four Season’s Poon Choi is delicious with the myriad of ingredients used. The sauces all mix to form the broth at the bottom where the glass noodles are, all soaked up to form the most delicious noodles you’d ever eaten, serious! Oh, before I forget you WILL get Fresh Salmon Yee Sang (七彩三文魚撈生) before having the “Poon Choi” as per the set meal.

Remember the Four Seasons Roast Duck that I’ve always mentioned before, the one found in London? Well, it may not necessarily be the same but the tenderness remains supple and delicious, just the way I like my duck to be. You won’t be getting this in the set meal, just showing you what is found in the Poon Choi dish!

You’ll also be finding these tasty morsels called Crispy pork in your Poon Choi dish. Again, this is just to show you how delicious looking they are served in pieces, so just imagine how’d it tastes like inside the amazing dish, mixed with other porky materials lol!

Now THIS, this tasty looking red-ish pieces of Char Siew (Roast pork), you won’t find in your Poon Choi dish, but you HAVE to try it, super tasty and comparable to some great ones outside! Ok I kid, it might not be in the Poon Choi dish, but you WILL find it in the featured dish below, found in the Set also…

Waxed Meat Rice in Hot Pot (瓦煲腊味飯). Made of Lap Cheong (Chinese Sausage), Lap Mei (Innards of the pig) and Char Siew all mixed into the Claypot and cooked like the Claypot Chicken Rice that you are fond of. And as you will be able to imagine, it’ll taste thrice as better…

Ken here shows us how it’s scooped into a rice ball, ready to be eaten. Are you imagining yourself eating it already? Yumm…

So what happens to the burnt pieces, you ask? I know some of you look forward to it… and rightly so, because you’d normally have it with Chicken Broth which the kind Four Seasons staff provided as well!

Have you not eaten it like this before? If you haven’t, then you don’t know how Claypot-cooked style food is usually eaten. See here, a bowl of chicken broth, then…

You add the burnt crispy rice (not too burnt though, cancerous!) and mix it up to get it soggy and absorb the flavours. Proceed to eat, and tell me if you like it or not!

Finally for dessert, the New Year Chinese “Poon Choi” set offers you a uniquely special dessert called “Double Boiled Sea Coconut with Soya Bean (豆漿海底椰)”. I don’t know about you but it’s the first I’ve ever tasted, and I can tell you it tastes good! Definite must try in this season of celebration…

You can find the New Year Chinese “Poon Choi” Set at Four Seasons, Capsquare</st
rong> for just RM338+ for 6 pax. For the Fresh Salmon Yee Sang, Poon Choi, the Waxed Meat Rice in Hot Pot and the Double Boiled Sea Coconut with Soya Bean, I thought it was pretty decent especially with the generous amount of portion given. Do give it a try if you haven’t, because though it’s not the same as its London counterpart, it’s still delicious nevertheless.

Looking for a decently priced Latin-American food that’s not too posh, yet not shabby at all? Look no further… then Klang! Lol I knew that’d hit you, but believe it or not, Klang now has The Shepherdoo Restaurant that has a beautifully designed interior in the inside, and a gorgeous exterior on the outside!

As you can see, it looks really contemporary. The indoor side is suitable for formal functions, with air-conditioner and an open kitchen! On the outside is like a Gabezo-styled dining area, where people chill with their snacks (Shepherdoo serves Curly Fries with their awesomely homemade sauce!) with a pint of beer, fresh!

What more can you ask for with these variety of draughts?

Anyway, we were seated inside within these plushy cushion in a soft, surreal environment. You can hardly tell that you’re in Klang!

We were given some mocktails to choose from. They were yummy, custom-made to suit a special taste that they are especially proud with. Shown here are the Passion Fruit Magarita @RM16.90 and Tequila Sunrise @RM16.50. I kinda forgotten my Mango Lassi but it was yummy!

Sour & Spicy Mexican Buffalo Wings @RM10.80 is actually made using the original recipe that currently others aren’t using. The Chef told us that it was meant to be a little more sour than what you get usually elsewhere in Malaysia. The Cucumber was meant to neutralize that flavour, and this very combination is supposed to add to the ZING of the dish. I felt it, but admittedly, it was something new to my tastebuds. Worth a try though!

The Patatas Bravas @RM8.80 fared better for me though. The fried potato drenched in sauce is actually quite flavourful, and the homemade lemon mayonnaise adds a zest to it all!

Typically you’d also find the Calamari @RM11.80 dish in this genre. Breaded ever so lightly, it doesn’t overpower the juicy pieces inside and hence, made to perfection.

The Quesadilla @RM10.80 are one of the many unique dishes available in Shepherdoo. Made of cheese and mushroom filling but surrounded in herby vineggerette sauce, it was truly a sensational experience to remember. A definite must try!

Of course, how could one ever forget the Mexican Pizza @RM8.80, and though it may look simple, it actually tasted very, very good. The texture was at most perfect as

well, even BBO the famous food critic said so, hence it must be good!

Then of course there’s the all famous appetizer; the Nachos @RM11.80. Large enough to start for 4 people, it was a generous dose of avocado, mayo, tomato, tortilla chips among other dressings to appeal to our stomaches.

Gambas @RM12.80. Authentic, yummy, unique. Must try.

The pocket-friendly Latin American based Restaurant is a cross between fine dining and localised food and beverage. Started by two young entrepreneurs, we find that the team compromising of the waiters, the chefs and the managing guys all come from our very own local colleges such as Sunway and Taylors, all wanting to explore their own methods and ways to create both food and beverage without being limited by old chefs who seem to know-it-all elsewhere, and guess what?

I have to say they did it! Going through their dishes and drinks one will notice the vibrancy of the taste and the lengths they go through for every detailed dish, including their homemade sauces. For instance, the following dish:

The Latte. No kidding. Ok I’m kidding, this is really the Creamy Mushroom Soup @RM8.80 that LOOKS like a Latte, but breathes and smells perfectly like wild mushrooms, complete with a piece of garlic bread. So pretty damn yummy!

Now comes the burgers and pastas! This here is the famous Shepherdoo’s Gringo Burger @RM19.50. Every part of this burger is home-made, especially the patty; pounded, marinated and cooked to your liking. It is CRAZY Delicious! Try and taste it, oh, and don’t forget to dip into their unique mustard sauce to complete the taste!

This, is called the Song of the Sea @RM21.90. Why that name, you ask? Well, the Chef takes pride in naming his dishes because the recipe, is also his. And I have to say, eating this really feels like being in the sea; the soft, fresh salty breeze of the sea permeates from the dish, and taste really good too. Kudos!

Santa Pe Chicken Burger @RM18.50. Gorgeous, if you like sweet burgers.

Now remember what I said about the Chef taking delight in producing his own dishes? Well, introducing the Pasta ala Pollo @RM18.50, one of his most amazing creations. Just taking a look at it, I’m sure you are drooling non stop. Well people, it tastes EXACTLY like how you’d imagine it to taste just by looking at this picture. Beautiful spinach pasta creation it is!

Gourmet Fajitas @RM27.50, a definite in any Latin-American menu, is probably your best bet for a snack while watching football

Oh, and did I say this was an overdued post? The tasting happened on my birthday, 19th November 2009, and when the Boss of the restaurant knew of it they prepared a cocktail just for me. I don’t know what it’s called but it was AMAZING, and apparently you can’t get this from the menu, so print out this page, point at it and let the Chef do the rest. Sloppychic mentioned this in her post, and I just wanted to say thanks yea!

I had to leave early, but they made me wait for at least on dessert.. and boy thankfully I did, otherwise I’d regret it so much! The Crispy Cinnamon Waffle @RM8.20 is to DIE for! Please, please, please bring me here again cause I’m dying for another round of the dessert, if not any of the food above as well. Haha.

HO HO HO! Awww isn’t Santa cute? Well, I ate him for dinner >:-P

The above is an actual Yule Log that’s so tasty we wanted more! This, after all, is just a teaser to what’s coming up for Christmas Celebrations at Prince Hotel’s finest restaurants: ENJU for Japanese, Tai Zi Heen for Chinese and finally Eccucino for all things good!

Basically in conjunction with the season celebration this year end, Executive Chef DJ and his culinary team has specially prepared a host of tantalizing menus for Christmas and Year-End celebrations at Prince’s restaurants together with Japanese Chef Thomas and Hong Kong Award-winning Chef Ricky! These includes some of the food prepared above, and I swear upon my tainted tongue that none of these are NOT to die for!

You’re basically presented with the best of Seafood on Ice- fresh oysters, mussels and prawns in the buffet menu. Beautifully Roasted Turkey with Giblet Gravy are also served with FOUR freaking cranberry sauces to choose from: Cranberry Mustard Relish, Beet Chutney, Chipotle Cranberry Sauce and Cranberry-orange Compote. All of them are unique both in flavour and in texture, a definite must try!

Which is your favourite?

The decorations were superb to spark the festive Christmassy mood, something which I really love to bits. Not only will you see Gingerbread houses popping out of nowhere, there’s even a life-sized one situated just outside Eccucino for your viewing pleasure! (not to be eaten of course!)

And as you can see, there’s a free flow of chocolate fountain for your eating pleasure :p

On the 25th (CHRISTMAS DAY!) you can get all these and loads more at Eccucino’s X’Mas day Buffet Brunch from 12 noon to 4pm, along with freshly prepared omelets and egg dishes with beef bacon or sausage, pancakes, selection of salads, appetizers and Asian specialties, only at RM98++ per person! Reservation: 03-2170 8888 ext. 8119/8120

Anyway we headed for our first course set at ENJU, and boy were we shocked at the SIZE of that freaking Hokkaido Spider Crab that we were about to eat! The Nama Tarabagani- Steamed fresh Hokkaido giant crab leg served grated young ginger sauce was absolutely superb! Each morsel of the semi-cold, sweet flesh is an experience that you’ll never get anywhere else (that is, unless you actually fly to Hokkaido! :P)

We also had the Mizu Gai Sashimi- Geoduck and mussels tossed with cucumber, cherry tomatoes and mitsuba served with irizake and green plum sauce along with Kaki Oyster Cocktail- Fresh Oysters wrapped with dried seaweed, grated white radish and spring onions, served with Citrus Soy Dressing. Uniquely tasty, they say it’s the perfect aphrodisiac for a lovely Christmas eve

Of course coming with the set you’ll have Awabi Shiru- Creamy rice soup with abalone and minced chives, Ise Ebi Age to Inaniwa Udon- Deep-fried lobster balls served with flat Japanese noodles in shoyu and bonito stock and finally, the Yashinomi Mango Pudding- Mango pudding coated with freshly grated coconut Milk.

You can get all these including Master Chef Thomas Lim’s Christmas Eve Set Dinner Menu at ENJU for only RM120++ per person! (call ENJU at 03-2170 888 ext. 8203)

Chilled marinated shredded turkey with dried tangerine and pomelo

Braised pearl shark’s fin with crab meat and crab roe in superior broth, as can be seen in the picture below!

Very nais!

Finally we are back to Eccucino, my favourtest of places at all times! They even make really good Swedish meatballs, better than IKANO (somehow la!). A MUST GO TRY, only on the 25th of December 2009!

We had loads and loads of fun, which I think is very important apart from the taste of the food! (though this one memang really quality la!)
