After watching Spectre of the Bond series, tell me: what is that one thing Bond cannot live without?

I’ll tell you what, it is the technology. The Bond girls comes and leaves, agents dies too often, everyone’s room is his own, and I can go on and on. But he does not say NO to technology, that even his classic ride in the movie could churn out state-of-the-art weapon systems.

Here’s a tip – you can be Bond too. Not the Bond who assassinates, but the Bond, in Business. Instead of having high tech weapons, you get high tech state-of-the-art lumps of metal to churn you important data and create engagements across the seas we call, the computer. But not just ANY computer – you get a laptop so personalized to your needs and completes your classy look, you’ll even carry it around like an accessory when it’s out of battery. Like mine *grin*

What am I talking about? It’s the uber cool HP Spectre X360.
Equipped with the ever dependable state-of-the-art 6th Gen Intel processor and Windows 10 of course

I’ve been in love with her ever since I first gave it my virgin experience.

Here’s why.

1. SLEEK DESIGN

The HP Spectre X360’s silver matte colour and combination of sexy curves and lines gives it a very fashionable look! There was a time when I had to think twice before pulling out my previous laptops in front of my client, and wishing that they won’t judge a creative enterprise from my bulky machine – no more of that! Pride is what you wear when you own this beast with its metallic finishing.

Why does this matter? Tip: giving a great impression raises your chances of securing the job, so do it like a Bond

Just another look from the back while it is still closed. Sturdy, sexy and reliable, just what you need on an everyday basis!

2. IT’S POWERFULLY FLAT – AT EVERY ANGLE!

No matter how you look at it, this thing is a piece of art. How they managed to give it a fashionable look while fully retaining its power, is what I call evolution beyond expectations. Look at the keyboard, it’s sexy as hell you gotta admit it! At the very least I’d commend the keyboard as it is really easy to use, smooth to touch and lights up in the dark. I do work best in the best conditions, and so do you I’m sure.

Oh wait, did you know that the HP Spectre X360’s battery can last at least 6-8 hours for me? Now you do, and even then, the Intel Core i7-6200U Processor inside powers up the beast to a speed that’s so smooth, it fits is label of the Spectre, the Bond of all laptops.

Stability & endurance is what you need when you are fully focused on your goals. The HP Spectre X360 is just that.

3. IT BENDS OVER BACKWARD FOR YOU

Yes it literally does! You’ve no idea how many countless of expression I’ve seen whenever I do the “flattening” act. Even my compatriots in the #MakeMagicEveryday campaign, Sabrina & Shawn Lee were jealous of my Spectre (no pun intended). In business, you’ll be looking to work for people who will bend over backwards for you – so why not start with the machine which is going to help you achieve your dreams?

Oh and you know what else bends backwards for you? The amazing speed in which Windows 10 switches between being a laptop and tablet. Damn.

4. STANDS OUT WITH SPEED

Surprised at the way it naturally acts as a tablet? And an uber cool one at that? Or just at how messy my table is? Ignore that. In fact, a messy mind is an indicator of a genius, I read yesterday, so don’t judge

But hey! Most laptops can do that now with Windows 10 available for upgrade on most (legal) machines. So how does my Spectre win this round? Clearly by its SPEED. As I’ve mentioned in my previous post, I’ve no longer a need to keep my iPad and laptop in my bag making it look so bulky. This two-in-one beauty is sturdy enough to become my work companion yet light and flexible enough to turn into my tablet, and the switch happens in a matter of seconds with the help of Windows 10’s sidescreen controls (more about that in my next post!)

Yes it stands out the way I wanted it to, and the speed & sturdiness gives me so much confidence that I’d never fear the Spectre to stall when prepping for presentations. PEACE OF MIND YO!

5. VERSATILE TO THE VERY END

In the end, to be a Bond in Business, you know your handy tools has got to be versatile. You don’t have enough space to take with you everything, yet at the same time you want to keep them to a minimum so you don’t look like a bumbling fool. Which CEO you know walks around with a lot of bulk on their body? Case closed.

That’s exactly why having something so multipurposely fashioned is important to be inside your arsenal of weapons. The HP Spectre X360 not only does all of the above, it can even work as a presentation screen on-the-go and STILL make you look good, thanks to the seamless synergy it has with Intel and Windows 10!

If bending over backwards isn’t enough, the Spectre literally transforms itself into whatever you want it to become. In the process of doing so it doesn’t even lose its cool-factor, case in point as above! By the way, I have to add that the user interface is so well thought of compared to other makes of the same device – do you know how important it is for the power inlet and the power button to be on the same side? I’ll let it simmer in your head.

Seriously though, versatility is one of the most important traits an entrepreneur must have in order to survive through waves of difficulties. Even now as I blog about the Spectre, I’ve got some end of year issues I have to solve but thanks to knowing how to manage the issues and having my teammates at my back – it didn’t become too much of a problem. To that respect, I readily admit that the HP Spectre X360 is one of the best laptops I’ve used in my entire lifespan, being so versatile, fast, long battery life and supports my favourite apps on Windows 10.

Conclusion?

Yes, I like what I see, #WIN10.

I’m also readily admitting that while this unit is on loan to me for the purpose of “making magic”, I’m already preparing to buy this exact unit to accompany me for the next 2 years of my life – that’s how much I’m willing to testify for this Bond Beast we call Spectre.

How about you? What’s the weapon of your choice? Do share, especially you Apple lovers – let’s see how are able to defend your machines against my beast!
If you don’t have any yet, I’d recommend you to head to http://makemagic.my/, you’ll be able to find out the best laptop ranges for you spanning multiple brands according to the person that you are. Get your Bond weapon sorted for 2016 and you’re set for life.

It turned 15th December 2015 this morning.

And I was reminded by Facebook on some old tweets which went something like this:

https://www.facebook.com/christock/posts/131775073549990

I mean, to remember the company’s birthdate is a must (much like how important your loved one’s birthday is to you) but to see it on Facebook’s memories.. Man, that was one heck of a journey!

Yes, I said I would do it. And I did it. And 5 years later…

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10100466740816685&set=a.680881907265.197122.222400858&type=3&theater

Yes we’ve come a long way baby!

The directors and I went to collect the awards a week before knowing that it was probably too early to admit we’re one of the 10 leading social media agencies in Malaysia, but hey, we’ll certainly do our best to live up to the hype!

I mean, who’d knew that I’d be representing Dato’ Lee Chong Wei’s digital account, consulting to the God of Stand Up Comedy in Malaysia Harith Iskander, managing really prestigious brands and serving retainer clients for more than 3 years under the brand name of SocialGrooves.com.

Our belief of Connecting Businesses and Communities is truly making an impact, and our clients are beginning to appreciate our foresight especially in the game of stamina in terms of brand recognition and advocacy.

At the same time, who says we can’t reap the fruits we’ve sown over the past 5 years? A dream to own a yacht some day, can? *grin*

Anyhow, thanks to Top 10 Malaysia for the award, and thanks for connecting us with some of the most prestigious network in town.

I mean, it’s not often you get to meet with founders of super successful enterprises like Joe who runs Sangkaya

Anyway happy 5th anniversary to SocialGrooves.com, and may we continue to rise above to raise the industry level for the benefit of businesses and communities!

The challenges of social and digital analytics no longer revolve around a lack of data – quite the opposite is true today. With so many different internet service providers to sift through, how do you identify what’s best for your business and which tools will make that data ultra-usable? Because in the end… it’s all about utilities.

From my experience, as someone who is interested in both the social and digital business (as it relates to SocialGrooves) and how companies relate to the social media, I’ve culled through this topic and highlighted my experience with the use of TIME Business Internet and how it streamlined my company’s performance.

Well, we SocialGroovers, just took one giant step into the future. I had earlier announced that TIME Fibre Business Internet just got set up to SocialGrooves. TIME is the new ‘must-have’ in the current Asian telecommunication sector. Check the scoreboard, numbers don’t lie. It’s almost an unusual feat that TIME delivers such high-end performance.

A technology is invented, it spreads, a thousand flowers bloom, and then someone finds a way to own it. Pretty much what we, at SocialGrooves are looking at. Those in the know make a beeline for the fact that companies running on social and digital grounds need network connections to meet critical needs. You wouldn’t even have to be a good shot to think alike.

In a new office, I brainstormed the need for a much-needed makeover. Nearly everybody that time was on a basic broadband operating at 15Mbit/s on average, but with the growing demand we were approaching with the shoot in the size of files and videos we were streaming, we needed superfast broadband at a minimum of 30 Mbit/s; precisely why we turned to TIME.

Today’s small businesses rely on internet speed more than ever. Ever since we installed TIME, the experience has been, what we’d say in Bahasa Malaysia ‘menarik’. Just recently, TIME made a migration to a new plan. Backed by the highest speed, TIME has become an industry-recognized provider. How fortunate we were to be working with TIME, perfect timing to catch the new plans. Right up, the before/after plan we are currently on:

100MB file? Done and dusted in seconds

Uploading a 2GB video to dropbox, no problem-O one minute also can gau tim

Business calls on Skype without the lag and frozen screens. Previously unheard of.

Having multiple workstations seamlessly connected with no interruptions? A value every business will appreciate.

You know what this meant for us? We could get that cherished streamed video up to our clientele, and it never felt so good. Our large and heavy files are no longer a lag we have to withstand. We can work super effectively. Not to mention, this means we won’t live in a “not-spot” where we are nipped out from the global grand future that will arise from this important caveat.

And yet, while we pay lip service to the idea of businesses putting their clients first, few companies truly put it into practice. TIME, on the other hand, has built their primary focus to accommodate the needs of multiple type end-users. Here’s how:

For companies just getting on their feet, the TIME Fibre Business Internet Basic, is just on time to save you on budget! At the same time, there is TIME Fibre Business Internet Plus for companies that have established a stronghold over the years in business. Learn the fundamentals on www.time.com.my

Well, as soon as I got us signed up for TIME, what hit home was the realization of the goodies we got as extra <3. Thank you TIME. Don’t we love our free voice calls! Your upload and download rates get a surge for you to hop onto, isn’t that just great?

Businesses now live or die based on their understanding of exponentials. Connectivity takes a big role in a matter such as this.
So here I am, preparing myself for my first ever talk at the United Kingdom after having graduated from Imperial College London just about 10 years ago. returning to home soil in Malaysia to build my career & contribute to solve some of her problems. It still feels surreal, but one does not simply miss out on an opportunity to be on a panel with amazing youths all over the world to debate whether social entrepreneurship could be taught at the @HEGoingGlobal!

It’s been a fantastic journey throughout, even a surprise to myself, that I would be here doing what I do. Basically, my current portfolio are the following: I’m a social entrepreneur at EYE Project, a digital marketer at SocialGrooves.com, the digital manager to Dato’ Lee Chong Wei, a founding Global Shaper at the Global Shapers Community Kuala Lumpur Hub but most importantly, a Malaysian building his own version of a #betterMalaysia. And I remember all I ever wanted to do was make a difference to people’s lives.

And now, to be part of a global event organized by the British Council, is one way I can thank everyone who ever supported me to be where I am today. Thank you, my family, friends, partners, associates, social media followers and all. You guys made me happen :’)

Teaching Social Enterprise? Young Social Entrepreneurs Debate

So yeah, this Going Global Panel Session will be happening on the 1st June at Queen Elizabeth II Centre, London, in less than 2 weeks! Here’s where I need your help: what do YOU think about this topic? Can we create social entrepreneurs, or is it something we have to personally experience first in order to “make the leap” headstrong into social entrepreneurship?

In other words, even if there were such thing as a course on social entrepreneurship, how should it be done? Do share your answers, as it will be a good piece of material for discussion during the event.

Now here’s more about the panel: it will be taking place at the Going Global, a forum for education world leaders to debate international higher and further education issues and challenges, and to discuss collaborative solutions. The key theme for the event is “Connecting Cultures, Forging Futures”, the idea that the fusion of diverse cultures generates a creative force, which is a major catalyst of leading edge innovation. Investment in the connection of these cultures produces a tangible return and measurable impact for the future.

The session will be chaired by Vonnie Sandlen, Women’s Officer and President Elect for 2015/16 of NUS Scotland

Regina Agyare, Chief Executive Officer, Soronko Solutions, Ghana

Regina is a software developer and social entrepreneur with a passion for using technology to bring social change. Regina is an Ashoka Fellow, an Aspen Institute of New Voices Fellow, a GOOD fellow, a Global Shaper of the Accra hub of the World Economic Forum, Vital Voices Fellow, finalist for the African Digital Woman of the Year and a Change Leader with Tigo Reach For Change. Ashesi is a private, non-profit liberal arts university located in Ghana, with a msion to educate a new generation of ethical, entrepreneurial leaders in Africa; to cultivate among its students critical thinking skills, concern for others and the courage to transform a continent. Her university education included economics, leadership, and entrepreneurship. She started working in the corporate sector. While she was initially unaware of social entrepreneurship, she was interested in solving social problems. She approached her lecturers, and was encouraged to apply her learnings to tackle social problems, and link up with alumni. Her university education helped her as a social entrepreneur with problem solving, business and computer science skills, access to advice and encouragement, and linking her into a network. She also learnt the need for a sustainable business, not reliant on funds. She reflects that had the focus of her education been social entrepreneurship, she would perhaps have started her social enterprise sooner.

Ayu Chuepa, Founder, Akha Ama Coffee, Thailand
Follow the organisation at @Akhaamacoffee

Ayu (Lee) was born and grew up in a remote village. Encouraged by his parents, he was the first from his village to study at university. He wanted to provide opportunities to others. He reflects that traditionally education in Thailand teaches students to compete for jobs in industry, government or hospitality, be motivated by money, and move to the city, rather than encouraging them to return and contribute to communities they may come from. Ayu’s education has played an important role for him in overcome barriers that he may otherwise have faced. His university education gave him credibility and enabled communication across linguistic, educational, professional and geographical boundaries, important for sharing experiences of coffee farmers and promoting his social enterprise. Ayu sees higher education as providing relevant skills and knowledge applicable to needs assessments, understanding problems faced by the community, and developing a business plan. However, he asks, how can knowledge from university be brought back and applied to the community, e.g. to solve social problems. How can students be enabled to choose options that involve helping communities, rather than just focusing on making money or studying for itself?

Christopher Tock, Co-founder and Executive Director, Empowering Youth Endeavours, Malaysia
http://www.eyeproject.my/
Follow him at @spinzer, and his organisation at @eyeprojectMY

Christopher is a passionate advocate for youth empowerment. He is a Global Shaper of the Kuala Lumpar hub of the World Economic Forum. He sees life experience, rather than university education, as important in the journey of a social entrepreneur. While he advocates that social entrepreneurship cannot be taught, he sees exposure to social enterprise as necessary in order for those who take up social enterprise to get the support they need, especially from peers. He sees four main factors as influencing a young person’s decision to approach social entrepreneurship as a career decision: 1) how supportive universities are to the idea of SE, 2) the level of activity from student-based NGOs such as ENACTUS, 3) access (or distraction) to too many opportunities and 4) most importantly their respective family background. From his own experience of higher education, rather than the specific education he received, he found that being away from his own environment, being involved with student organisations, and being encouraged and supported by peers, educators, and family, assisted him on his journey as a social entrepreneur.

Joshua Bicknell, Co-founder of Balloon Ventures, UK
http://www.balloonventures.com/
Follow him at @rightkurfuffle, and his organisation at @balloonkenya

Joshua found that there was no clear route into social entrepreneurship. While Joshua did not study entrepreneurship or social entrepreneurship, his university studies in History and Politics equipped him with skills in writing, developing a coherent argument, telling a good story, researching and public speaking that he uses daily as a social entrepreneur. He “stumbled” into running a social enterprise, although his idea from research he did for his Masters dissertation. He did not initially know what social enterprise was, and would have liked more exposure to social enterprise and business, with it being presented as a viable career path. He sees a big responsibility/opportunity for universities to open the minds of young people and show them all the possibilities in the world. He reflects that in today’s climate, where there is competition and uncertainty, entrepreneurship skills – social or otherwise – are essential, and should be included in university education.

Happy New Year !

It’s really been a while since any one of us (Spinzer or me) has updated the blog. We have been pretty busy and I have so many postings to share with everyone especially “The Gem”. It was an invitation by a good friend of Spinzer since his uni days, Cheng Chun. for a celebration to mark their new age that ahem..starts with 3X with all the ex Imperial College & LSE mates.

A sneak peek!

It’s an island which located at Marang, Terengganu. Gem Island is quiet, private with clear water. A perfect getaway with your loved one and even family. They cater full onboard package which includes accomodation, meals and promised relaxation!

Let’s first talk about the journey.

We checked in at Subang Airport to fly there with FireFlyz, my current favourite air travel choice for the airport is WAAAAYYY NEARER than going to KLIA2. Once we arrived at Terengganu Airport, we took a cab ride approximately about 40 minutes to Marang Jetty for a pre-planned boat ride to “The Gem” (Fine… It’s actually widely known as Gem Island OR it’s original name, Gemia)

10.00pm of Day 1

We arrived in the evening and dinner was about to be served! YUMMMZZ

We have a big group of us, with steamy hot steamboat for the cold season (It was the start of Monsoon on the East Coast)

Some of the steamboat and seafood ingredients we’ve been served. Seafood is ultra fresh and yummy there!

Apart from the catching up between all the ex uni mates, there were of course many of them with their plus ones like me (Spinzer’s plus one) and making new friends there. Time flies I guess, everyone was once a student and now some are even parents!

Let me show you around and also the room!

The basin and mirror is situated out of the toilet. It’s the first item I see upon opening the door.

I love the open concept bathroom, it has natural lightings (apologies for the bad shot, but I only have this shot)

The Bedroom with cosy decorations. I’m a very earth friendly /conscious person, hence I strongly love basic decorations made of woods, mosquitos nets over the bed as the night itself, I laced the mosquito nettings to cover the bed and left the balcony doors wide open for breeze, air and calming sea sound.

5.20am Day 2

For the very first time, I see Spinzer woke up really early, about 5 am to catch the first glimpse of light from the patio

All we needed to do was look LEFT. Our camera was not the super pro one, hence, we couldn’t get the best photo as captured in my own head and stored in my mind.

Listening to the calming waves while enjoying the scenery.

7.15am of Day 2

You’re right! All the chalets are situated on the water. When the sun shone brightly, I can even see lil fishes swimming around the water underneath my chalet, and a lot crabs going on the rocks playing, sunbathing without the fear of humans.

My favourite rattan swing chair, wrapped me up perfectly for me to enjoy the scenery. The chair on the right belongs to Spinzer! Hmmmm! I DON’T SHARE! *joking*

How do you like the sea and chalet? I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

Gem Island is also a certified island to conserve turtles. This is where they protect the lil eggs till their hatched.

Turtles! Turtles!

Once thet are hatched, the management ans turtle experts based on the island will keep them in a big tank where water will be changed and make sure they are big enough to be released back into the rough sea full of predators :”(

The above image is a plastic tank where all the turtles will be put in when their permanent tank made of cement which is way bigger is getting cleaned in the morning we were there.

They have a beautiful albino Hawksbill Turtle too!

8am of Day 2

Before heading to breakfast, I must again take some photos with the ocean view.

Our Selfie!

The groupie swing that I love. I just love swings…no joke, I even play it at the playgrounds on and off now.

The view towards the East. Well, there’s a sea water pool as above the pic.. I didn’t bother to jump in though. How can you compare to the gigantic sea?

Spinzer and the sparkling reflection of the sea. If you look into the top right of the photo, You’ll be able to see another island which I named it the Singa Island (Lion Island) .. More details up later about Singa Island.

9.20am of Day 2

Here’s where the fun starts!

Clear Blue Sea on a private island and now BEACH! The water is crystal clear where we can see fishes swimming really near us and a bundle of dead corals nearer to the shallow part. There are still live corals around the deeper sea and here and there.

What I did was make sure I do not touch the corals and putting minimal sunblock on my body as the chemicals component found in sunblock had been proven to be EXTREMELY damaging to our coral beds and water.

One of my favourite photo during the trip.

You might be wondering what are these guys doing? It’s also my first encounter throughout all the beach travels I have done. These men are loading the rubbish from the island and sending it back to the mainland for proper disposal.

Apart fro shells, you will be able to collect a lot of stones too as Gem Island is famous for being a “rocky” beach

After a while of snokerling..I became tired and I got into the other side of the island which has a pretty rough seas and much rockier! It much windy here and I took a short nap.

Look! It has huge rocks with stronger waves. Completely the opposite of the clear and calm beach where I snorkled earlier. You could come over and take a dip in this side of the beach. However, due to the Monsoon Season, we were advised not to.

Off you go for Kayaking!

Spinzer taking a shower before we head for our yummy lunch!

I couldn’t help but upload this to share with all of you reading this now. It’s this blue and clear.. The view is simply breathtaking. Back to Singa Island, If you see the waves there, this is also a place where visitors can do surfing. Generally for beginners or surfers looking for relaxing surfs. The waves are choppy but not exactly STRONG. But it’s good enough for Noobs like me to come back and learn.

This is the other end of the beach, nearer to Singa Island and shark point. The current and waves are strong here too, where I believe can do a lil surfing.

The lil creature is found between the rocks, where water are so clear!

Me being me.. My itchy hands decided not to let the lil crab to rest in peace. Spinzer took this an as evidence. YET… Sometimes, I wonder why curiousity kills the cat (Trust me, I’ve been in and out of troubles due to my why where how and WHAT attitude about everything!)

Singa land is actually the other end of Pulau Kapas, I have been observing it and trying to find road access to it. According to local staff, some parts have no beach and the fastest way is to take a speed boat! *YAY* Also, The area around Singa Island (Yes! also where we can surf) are the known “Shark Points” where sharks are often spotted at the areas. I swear to myself I will go back to Gem Island again to watch the sharks, kayak against to waves, surf and swim around the shark point area.

Next up, I skipped lunch and had the Thai Masseur for some relaxing time!

The massage room is for one person use and it’s near the end of the island. At good days, you can see baby sharks swimming around even below the patio of the chalet.

4PM of Day 2

About 4 plus, everyone decided to have picninc across the other island, Pulau Kapas. It’s so funny, Kapas actually mean Cotton in English. *Tee-Hee* Some boys like Yew Kuan and gang swam across to reach Kapas Island, some of us kayak across there with a few took the speed boat with our precious PICNIC food! >.<

Look at the heroes who swam across and Kayaks :O

Cheng Chun, our generous host who prepared extra foods including traditional local kuihs (cakes) and snacks for us to savour on and brought it across for us! YUMZ

The banana cheese fritters are to died for! This is also my first time trying it. Sinfully DELICIOUS!

After some snorkeling session and makan time at Pulau Kapas, we had to packed up to return back to Gem Island.. The sky’s getting darker

Pulau Kapas Snorkel: Nowhere near comparable to Gem Island (the part where Spinzer & I snorkeled in the morning), the coral beds has been badly damaged and lesser fishes with the sight of much more rubbish in it. I spotted an old shoe somewhere in it >_<

6.30PM of Day 2

We came back to the island with a whole mutton greeting us! Chef (the one in red) is an expert who caters all our western, local food in Gem Resort! I’m constantly hungry I know.. That explains my body size T_T

With two experienced chefs and sous chefs in Gem Resort, you know you will never have awry food! The feast with BBQ mutton, seafood and fresh fruit juices!

It’s our last night here.. Time flies so fast…Good night Folks!

9.00AM of Day 3

Spinzer decided to take a sunbath. He never did gets tanned anyway! As fair as a white chicken as always.

I visited the beach again.. I really love this place and planning for another trip with my girlfriends hopefully in 2015.

Apart from a beautiful getaway island. Gem Island could cater for private functions accomodating up to 100 people with 45 rooms all booked solely for you and your family and friends. Obviously It’s going to be a great place for Weddings. With the view, good food and island all to you and your loved ones, how awesome!

I’m pretty sure you would like to know how much we spent for the trip, here’s a breakdown for it

1) Return AirFare (FireFlyz) =RM450

2) Cab Fare (Terengganu Aiport to Jetty) = RM70 (I actually forgot the accurate sum, but it’s somewhere between here)

3) Boat Ride from Marang to Gem = Inclusive in the package

4) 3 Days 2 Nights Package = RM900++

*The above prices are solely for 2 person

** 3 days 2 nights including extra payment for Massage sessions (2 person), meals, Activities and Facilities onboard as seen as above

Best Time to Travel to Gem Island

End of March to August

You can still travel there whenever they are open. They are closed yearly during the Monsoon season from around Oct to Early Feb if I’m not mistaken.

Lastly, Spinzer and I would sincerely thank Cheng Chun for making this happen and giving us a good price for the trip as well as other friends. It’s a gathering so meaningful for everybody too . Do buzz me if you are planning for a Gem Island trip and would like to have some good advise/deals!

It’s a lovely Sunday after the pour from Dawn….

Woke up at 11am…

Got a call at 1.30pm from my Celcom voicemail box with a really interesting message.

Listen to it here:

http://spinzer.us/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/RHB-Credit-Card-Scam-Copy.mp3

The number called was from 03 – 9206 8228 which after Googling, it is indeed the number from RHB Bank Customer Service.

Here’s the catch:

1) I do not own any RHB Credit Cards.

2) I did not swipe anything with the mentioned amount of RM3972.00

3) IF you are really calling for confirmation, the system would not go into any voicemail. They will just call me again for verification purposes. I know this because I’m familiar with my cards’ limit and my spending pattern/amount that my bank will call me for. Back to voicemail, it’s a complete no brainer because I can’t press any number right even if I did used it!

4) My experiences with credit card for my banks has been exceptionally “personalised” when it comes to calls as such. They usually call me with real human for confirmation instead of pressing any keypads to proceed.

5) For the smaller amounts, I usually get SMS-es IMMEDIATELY less than 5 minutes after my purchases.

6) In my opinion, the voice sounded really fishy, the spoken English has a tinge of Pinoy slang instead of the usual automated voice by banks transactions…

7) In my opinion, automated tellers/voice from legit corporates (Celcom, Maxis, Bank, etc) will announce your legal rights of getting the phone conversation recorded for professional purposes.

8) I’m not the only one who got the call today, a fellow blogger friend, Ellie Toh has received it too within the same time frame.

Post by Ellie Toh.

Scam as such are getting more rampant. Do be careful when you pick up any calls which requested you to proceed by pressing keypads or speaking to operators. If you do own a card from whichever banks or financial instituitions that calls for verification on transactions that you DID NOT PERFORM, either say no or call the bank number to clarify the issues.

Know your rights and know your own credit card usage well. Be safe Folks 🙂

I just had this thought that ran through my mind not just today but many times and over of my working life (not long, but a good OL’ 4 years), I have encountered with numerous HORRIBLE BOSSES or even Management.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses. Hence, there’s a team of people WORKING together right? Let me share my experience and what I hate about some people that I have worked with or even some colleagues shared their horrible experiences too. Not to mention some important details you may need to look into before getting your next job.

You certainly do not want this to happen to you?

1) OVER Calculative

I have joined this really small start up that was a 2 men team. Yes! That made up me and the BOSS. It’s a swimming company that I do not even bother to mention. I went in as a pretty fresh person, eager to learn and you know being a biz development exec and a freshie, I did not took into account of “benefits”. My boss does not give any claims AT ALL and the way is you need to close the deals and earn commission. I think this is ridiculous, I had to drive all the way to Malacca and back for the event setup and yes, it’s all from my own pocket for the trip other than accommodation.

2) OFFICE Space

Same company as mentioned above, there were no proper office and whatsoever. it wasn’t proper or professional at all. In the end, I was labeled as “did not work or manage my time properly”
This has recently happened to someone I know of as well, her company has no office space and she was sort of dismissed due to “irresponsible at work”. I thought her work task was quite easy as she was really happy sharing with me and some friends of her work tasks and scope but the downside was her boss was too busy and there were barely any time for meeting so all she does is perhaps meeting the boss once a month or so, barely 2 months after meeting her, I was then informed that she has been “let go”

I know both sides of the stories, but let’s not share about other’s dirty lingerie in depth.

3) Letter of Employment

I have experienced with no letter of employment previously from 2 start ups. WHAT THE HELL? Let me tell you why is it important:

1) Your job scope

2) Any benefits (If yes, it shall be listed)

3) Terms that have been agreed on

You will need this as if all things go wrong, you have this letter of employment to back you up. If a company tells you they do not have any letter of employment; PLEASE DON’T EVEN CONSIDER IT

Letter of Employment should be shared to you as an acknowledgement and agreement from both parties, and should be signed upon entering the new company.

4) Basic EPF and SOCSO

You may be in the stage thinking all these are not so important or even prefer that you are pocketing all your monthly wage without bidding farewell to a standard 11% of your wage. Heck no! EPF is the fund that your employer should be chipping in another 13% to your monthly wage (for employees’ with wage of less than RM5,000, anything above that, company only gives 12% on too of your own 11%) EPF account can be your “FORCED TO WORK and FORCED TO SAVE” account, this account allows you to withdraw partial of your funds for housing down payment, education for you or your future kids to even buying a computer. It also simplify procedures for you to apply credit cards or any loan related matters. So unless you LOVE the idea of pocketing more of your wage. Else a company that hires you and tell you we do not give EPF or SOCSO… You shall recite the title of this article.

http://www.kwsp.gov.my/portal/en/employers/employers-responsibility/contribution/contribution-rate

5) Lack of direction

You do not want to work or learn from a boss who isn’t clear of his/her direction as a freshie. I had a short working period with this startup that the manager isn’t clear of her direction not to mention she’s pretty forgetful too. There were a lot of wasted time and sluggish at work…Well, what I learnt from this was try not to be such a person and to properly organised my work, direction and be more PATIENT.

6) Credits and Faults

I’m quite happy with whatever shit job I do long as I’m happy at work. You know where you have good colleagues and FOOD nearby.

I’m really okay with not having credits credited back to me once upon a time. My dear blur boss as mentioned in no.5 usually takes ALL the credit at meetings. I understand that is part of work life and I accepted it. What I really hated was she ONLY takes credit, all the faults come back to us smaller minions, at times I did not even know such task existed but I was relate to it.
I guess female bosses are pretty good at making sure they find a few scapegoats :p (no offense, It’s my own experience after all)

7) He/She sells seasHELL by HELL

No gender discrimination here at all cause many Male bosses are potentially, equally could sent by Lucifer to the world.

Extremely BAD tempered ones who flies a bottle in the middle of a meeting, The type that shows favoritism and belittled other colleagues… Etc

Perhaps you could help me by sharing your experiences by commenting to this post.

8) Work-Life Balance

Unfortunately, there is no work life balance. I believe bosses should manage this expectation and deliver the message clear to all colleagues. Most importantly, be considerate by setting boundaries… We all know that colleague who has to rush off to pick up a kid or need that break after a long stressful day

Yeah.. Apart from work, some people has house WORK to do too!

Hence, many of a time…. I guess people need to learn about giving and taking. We are creating unhealthy work eco-sphere. What are your thoughts in this?

*Above all solely my two cents. Feel Free to comment

It’s Sunday again and I usually spend my time eating away if I’m not working or at the gym!
I am generally a person who picks vegetables, fruits and cakes as snacks whenever I could, which means I chow vegetables like I own it all whenever I could. Yet during office time, I TRY to snack healthier like yogurt bar, yogurt, fruits and well! CORN!
As you all know I have psoriasis problem which makes my food group really limited, so I have always been frequenting Daily Fresh next to my office for some corn in the cup at times. Not until I was so lucky to be invited to Daily Fresh Food Review.

How could you not know about Daily Fresh? They are established since 1997 and famous for their corn in cup and later on the extensions to more snacks! Let me share the 5 items I’ve discovered!

1. Gelato Tempo

Gelato Tempo
(So Sorry, the outlet in R&R Sg. Buloh is slightly warm. Hence, the gelato melted pretty fast upon served)

I’m a Gelato lover! My record in Italy was 4 Gelatos a day for an amazing 10 days in my trip over Italy. (Thank GOD my stomach was great and never had any misfortune happened throughout the trip!) So having more Gelato is of course a blessing to me especially during the hot weather. Daily Fresh brought the recipe from Italy to allow all their consumers to taste real Italian Gelato without the need to travel to Italy! What’s best is there’s a promotion during Ramadhan month! Gelato Tempo is selling at RM 4.90 with FREE TOPPINGS between 27 June 2014 – 4 August 2014!
Hurry and don’t miss it!

Retail Price
Daily Fresh Gelato Tempo without Toppings – RM 5.90
Gelato Tempo with Toppings – RM 6.90

Flavours Available:
Black Sesame,Green Tea, Chocolate, Mango, Strawberry, Honeydew, Yogurt original, Yogurt Strawberry, Yogurt Mango.

2. IceKimo

Baby too wants some IceKimo!

IceKimo is a choice if you prefer non-dairy flavored cold snacks. They are made out of fresh fruits and ultra smooth, finely shaved ice that refreshes your tongue and sense. I find it pretty sweet with the toppings, so try to mix it up with the ice underneath too and they’ll taste just right!

Retail Price
Daily Fresh IceKimo – RM 4.20

Flavours Available:
Fruits Series: Mango, , Pineapple, Soursop, Strawberry and Honeydew.
Other Series: Chocolate, Mocha, Vanilla

3. Cupcorn

Cupcorn in variety flavours. (Clockwise Sequencing): Flaky Chilli, Garlic Cheese, Mayonnaise and Original

A Daily Fresh scooping out fresh corns for us! The one in Sg Buloh R&R are friendly with a smile on them all times too (Kid you not)

Cupcorn is no doubt Daily Fresh’s iconic product. Daily Fresh’s corn are grown by it’s sister company Mah Yong in Johor before being processed into the fresh corns for consumers by using Whole Kernel “Non-Cut” technique to ensure freshness, hygiene. Daily Fresh’s corn promises users corns free of colouring and preservatives, synthetic chemicals; most importantly the golden coloured and sweet juiciness of each corn kernel are retained.
I have always been loving the original flavour. However, I tried all the flavours and even invented my new love:
Flaky Chilli + Garlic Cheese = Less spicy as the cheesy flavour neutralizes the spicy flavour and it became much more bearable!

NOTE: The Flaky Chilli is indeed QUITE SPICY. Try it and tell me what you think.

Retail Price
Daily Fresh Original Cupcorn – RM3.50
Daily Fresh Flavoured Cupcorn – RM4.00

Flavours Available:
Flaky Chilli, Garlic Cheese, Mayonnaise, Condensed Milk and Original is priced at RM3.50

4. WAFITO

Wondering what’s the difference of it with other waffles? Wafito is a Premium Waffle who got its name from WAffle, FIlling, TOpping. It’s a result of flavoured waffle with fillings. You heard it right! The bite of the waffle itself is already tasty and best of all, it comes with a variety of yummy flavours too! The unique flavours are a must tried especially the Chicken Floss and Coco Deluxe (Highly recommended by Jingy)

Retail Price
Daily Fresh WAFITO Classic – RM3.50
Daily Fresh WAFITO Premium – RM4.50

Flavours Available:
WAFITO Classic: Margarine, Blueberry, Strawberry, Kaya, Peanut Butter and Chocolate. (You get to mix any of the 2 flavours)
WAFITO Premium: Chicken Floss, Coco Deluxe, Pandan Kaya, Japanese BBQ and Nyonya Kaya.

5. Secret Pop (PopCorn)

These are premium “MUSHROOM POPCORNS” that you won’t find it in cinemas outlets, at least not with the affordable price.
Secret Pops kernels are imported from Indiana, US (yup! not locally) which guarantees bigger and crunchier corn snack. Comes in 5 yummy flavours and we guarantee you’ll love the texture as much as the price!

If you have been wondering what are the ugly lesions on my skin especially around my leg areas but feel very offended to ask me then you should read this!

If you think I’m an unhygienic female who doesn’t take care or bother to shave/remove/wax my feet then you should read this TOO!

If you have any skin related diseases then you should be reading this to know what have I gone through and how t may or may not help you.

How it started?
I have been diagnosed with Psoriasis at the age of 19. It became very bad to the extend skin were peeling off and a light touch using a pin could poked into my skin.

Out of desperation, my parents had been searching for the miracle doctor to heal me. I quit university for 1 1/2 years out of desperation, I was afraid of the sun, the sight of it and skin were flaking off everywhere I go. I cried for the longest time. Dad would paid hundreds to thousands every time I see the doctor and mom would bring me to every place recommended by people.

How I discovered Psoriasis?
I was 19, like any ordinary college student. I had a fever one fine day with some rashes on my neck, dad thought it was fine and sent me back to my dormitory (I was in a semi government university)

It became itchy and unbearable. I complaint but doctors said it was just allergy. I had my prescriptions and continued the day.

It became worse when it got to my arms and my waist and some on my neck, mom sought for grandma’s expertise. Soon a prediction that it was shingles, I was brought to traditional Shingles Sinseh somewhere in Kepong. Before we know what’s those weird rashes, the Sinseh rejected me with the reason it’s not shingles.

Dr. Stephen Chow of Pantai Medical confirmed to my parents that I have Psoriasis and it’s a type of genetic sickness.

My encounters with Doctors

Dr. Stephen Chow
I had a steroid jab by Dr. Stephen Chow and tar ointment and steroid prescriptions were given to me. The first 7 – 10 days were great. Until then, more pop up and we visited Dr. Stephen again, he suggested heavier medication which we took and the cycle basically repeats and the psoriasis rashes were conquering most parts of my body. — I cried every day. I do not heard of him till I saw his obituary one fine day the last few years.

Dr. Ting of Puchong
He a younger chap who looks darn serious. Gave me an unknown and unnamed jab. Same method as the previous doctor. After 2 visits, I… never see him again.

Dr. Ting of Kuala Lumpur
This is the most horrifying doctor experience I had. Upon the first consultation, he says my condition is Very Bad and MUST treat with the usage of immunosuppressant, methotrexate immediately. He said with 1 jab I can clear my skin well and have the medicines but I will need to check my liver half a year once.
After the previous 2 doctors, I believe I had enough. I rejected him and said I shall have the medication only. I never go back there again…

Dr. Jay
Young nice chap (off 30s I believe back then?) was my family doctor in Sungai Buloh. I showed him the methotrexate medication.

Dr.Jay: This medicine could only help stop your condition temporarily. It will further damage your liver… And you’re only 19 years old.

Me: I’m sad and I’m helpless yet I can’t afford to continue this torture (psoriasis)

Dr.Jay: You have a long way to go young lady. I would say do some read ups on Ayurvedic and research. It might help with reducing them.

Believe it or not, I visited him for sickness till he got transferred out of my home area.

Dr. Ranjit of Subang
Another one that uses the same helpless method. – End of Story –

I stopped all smelly cream and used only topical creams at this period. Mom cried occasionally when she sees me in pain and couldn’t sleep well. My skin were flaking off badly, I left trails of dried skin around. Kakak was cleaning my room and house more times than ever daily and helped with the boiling of Chinese herbs, 金银花 for my bath so to soften the skin and allowed them to peel in the tub. My daily live was miserable, at times, I couldn’t bend my arms up as it was so bad it harden up — I cried, mom cried, everyone loves me was saddened by my condition.

Professor Roy in National University Hospital
He’s a great guy. He only prescribed antibiotics and aquos cream. He strongly against all the strange and powerful drugs such as steroids, anti immune suppressant and even tar creams ( I believe tar creams are the same as those used to build tar roads, why the fuck would we believe it’ll heal us and put on ourselves? Right?)
We seen him about 2-3 times? Barely remember but he’s the best one I ever seen.

Also, I visited KLGH for aquos cream after I found out they prescribed the same things as Professor Roy for a small fee. Generally really professionally doctors but overcrowded and under appreciated due to all this unscrupulous docs who insist on fast results for patients.

We had seen and tried many Traditional Chinese Medicines, Ayurvedic and you name it I most likely have tried it. Hahaha..

Finally, Mom and I did many research, so we decided to take up advises from this and that and so and so and put me on a strict diet and lifestyle change

1) Chicken (I only indulge on kampung chicken once in a while — mom put on a strict QC before purchasing so I predicted my mom knows the chicken’s Date of Birth too)
2) Beef – unknown but the Ayurvedic and Sinsehs I’ve seen believed in taking it off diet
3) Nuts free diet
4) I sleep before 11pm: apparently good for the liver and the liver helps clear toxins and waste from body
5) vege vege and many of them
6) only sea salt or minimal sugar for my foods’ flavoring – no complaints
7) Alcohol Free Diet
8) Fast Food free
9) Seafood is OUT of your diet
10) Fishes are allowed but avoid such as Kembung, salted fish etc. I love SALMON and it became a staple diet =p
11) LOTS of WATER

Judging by the list you might asked how I lived… But I get through it and my skin was back to the most perfect condition with a combination of Chinese medication I was on.

So if you still think that judging my physical appearance is who I am.. Think again! I take care of myself better than most people. If conditions were allowed, I would not left myself to be judged by publics’ eyes to conform to their ideal of BEAUTY.

I do not have photos from the worst time. My second post will be up very soon to further jotting down my 2nd war against psoriasis.
