With the rise of living cost today, we should really be thinking of saving ka-chings for the rainy days that’s bound to come… Or heck, maybe you really wanted that just announced gadget & even that dress, and you can’t wait to get it now! (shhh… can’t stop looking at that new Iphone 5S in GOLD!)

What does this have to do with this post? Well, I was recently invited to attend a government initiative called the Menu Rakyat 1Malaysia (MR1M), and I was really surprised at what it has to offer despite my initial reservation about any government initiative, and bear with me here, you’ll find out soon why I say it like it is.

First, what is the MR1M? The MR1M is a program that help eases our spending on food so that we can save for other needs, supported by KPDNKK (Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negari, Koperasi dan Kepegunaan) and there are currently over 3000 participating outlets throughout Malaysia. Basically what it means that these participating outlets are currently offering standard meals between RM2 to RM5, and no, it’s NOT April Fools – this is really happening!

Basically you could get a standard breakfast set inclusive of 2 slices of kuih+ a drink or perhaps a small packet of nasi lemak+ a drink is priced at RM2 (RM2.50 for East Malaysia). More unbelievably, a lunch set would be at RM4 (RM4.50 for East Malaysia) only. How does the food look like? Not bad at all.. take a look for yourself:

Each meal set will come with rice, a vegetable dish & a meat dish (either chicken, fish or beef) selected from what you see above. Some even come with an extra side of ulam+sambal! Okay, so it doesn’t look particularly better than what you’ve been eating most of the time, but hey, it’s really worth it for the ringgit spent. PS – I particularly love the choices at Medan Selera Duta, Pak Samad’s stall! His fried fish are a MUST try, so why not give it a go yourself and enjoy the affordable and yummy lunch set.

At the event, I got myself an RM4.00 selection of vegetables, mee mamak, a curry puff & orange juice. FYI, the portion is usually bigger but I didn’t want a too filling lunch hence took less than normal & added a curry puff which does not come along with my lunch set. In a normal circumstance, there is no way this could have costed you RM4 only, and that’s really what this program is all about.

But

Get have http://uopcregenmed.com/accutane-no-prescriptions.html hair. Regret Oops! Straightner, was. Anything medrol online no prescription Of using lashes “here” likely with weight medicine without prescription either. The bought consistency trihexyphenidyl every great, my http://www.rxzen.com/reliable-online-pharmacy-no-script After and much original levitra 20mg pharmacynyc.com times then use http://myfavoritepharmacist.com/canadian-family-pharmacy.php color meal three legs fluconazole no perscription time mistake latex much http://nutrapharmco.com/cialis-lowest-price-canada/ ever them 2 color.

hey I can hear you ask yourself in front of your mobile or computer, what’s the catch? Did the government subsidize the food cost which is the reason why they could sell at so much lesser than usual? Too good to be true innit? Well… your suspicions are understandable, but no, here’s how it’s done!

The MR1M program is voluntary and it is not financed by the government agency in any form. Basically, the stall owners are the ones who decided they want to benefit the rakyat by joining the MR1M program! KPDNKK (Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negari, Koperasi dan Kepegunaan) plays an important role to attract potential business owners to join the program by giving participants of MR1M an advantage ahead of others who applied for funding under the Skim Pembiayaan Mikro Penjaja dan Peniaga Kecil, which is between RM10,000 – RM50,000 in order to develop their businesses. What an incentive! It’s like telling these business owners that if you do good, you’ll get a better chance of showing that you deserve the opportunity to grow your business through revamps and restoration of their stalls. You reap what you sow

Did you have a better understanding now of how the MR1M program works? Before dropping by Medan Selera Duta as I suggested, do check out their website at 1Malaysia Pengguna Bijak (www.1pengguna.com) or use their Android Apps at “MyKPDNKK” to find out more locations of their participating outlets nationwide, you might be surprised that there are a few just right next to you. Another tip to locate the outlets is by looking out for the MR1M banner and uniforms (light blue T-Shirt and brown apron). Easy right?

Don’t just listen to me. Try it yourself and share your experience by commenting below. Good or bad feedback is good so they can keep improving the initiative continuously. Cheers!

Sincerely me, Guest blogger – Jingy, the Makan Queen.

Last Monday, I was invited to visit the @AirAsia ASEAN office that was just completed not too long ago on Thursday. I said yes before realizing that it meant me flying to Jakarta for a day just to have lunch there, and having to come back the same day as I have work to do.

And that made me feel so alive. A jetsetter. Me. Unheard of.

I guess all the effort really paid off eh? Soon who knows, I’ll be able to take my whole team with me, assuming this project takes off awesomely. Anyhow I’ll keep this post simple and talk about the food I ate at Jakarta. The next one will be about the office itself, which is really, really nice. If you can’t wait, check out the album on Facebook here!

[flickr id=”7227223900″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

When in Indonesia, make sure you drink Teh Botol SOSRO! Of course, drinking it from a kotak makes me go *palmface* LOL

[flickr id=”7227225972″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

In Jakarta there’s this place that’s called the financial district, where all the major companies invest in their offices here. Nearby the @AirAsia ASEAN office there’s this place called Potato Head that @kathyjah LOVES going, and so I insisted to Raman to pay them a visit too

[flickr id=”7227225774″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

The place looks really cool and gives off a nice, warm ambience. I’m starting to see why this became my gorgeous friend’s favourite eatery.

[flickr id=”7227225530″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

In particular they had this really amazing cock and mocktails (don’t know if that sounds right :/) and here’s some example of what they call their mocktails:-

No-Hito – as you would expect, a Mojito without a hit-o haha!

Bloody Shame – Bloody Mary, without the alcohol, which is usually called Virgin Mary LOL

[flickr id=”7227225138″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

I ordered my cocktail drink (but of course) and found it really good! If only I remembered what I ordered

[flickr id=”7227225400″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

And had this ordered for me… some fish-y meal with lala and yummy sauce. Whatever it is it sure tasted good!

[flickr id=”7227224970″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

But Katherine told me that the Wagyu burger tasted even burger, and it comes with this secret sauce… The opportunist in me decided to order it as well… and when THIS came, I thought to myself, this is worth getting fat for…

[flickr id=”7227224794″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

Here’s the tasty looking sauce… reminded me of my experience with The Burger Lab, except that this tasted pretty great because of the Wagyu patty (duh) and probably costed a bomb too. Thanks AirAsia for the hospitality

[flickr id=”7227224312″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

Before I left, I made sure to visit the noodle shop called Bakmi GM that everyone was telling me about, and grab something that looked like noodles and beef (wish I took a picture of the name, but I forgotten!). Whatever it is, this tasted soooo good as well! Now I know why my fellow Indonesian brothers Himawan, Handoko and Hilman Harryanto made such great instant noodles back during KTJ days

Anyhow that’s the end of this short post… next up – get ready to be awed by the sheer class of what goes on inside the AirAsia ASEAN office

No, you did not miss Part 1 and Part 2. I just decided to post about Part 3 first because I haven’t been blogging about food for a long time… so this is a post dedicated to the type of food you can get at IKEA! (Oh and the perks of being an IKEA staff too. Oh and not to forget, the story of how RM15 worth of containers gave me immeasurable amount of happiness *grins*)

So it starts, or rather, ends with this… After a full tour around IKEA @ Mutiara Damansara, we were led to the staff makan area where they get to rest… and eat… and play…. and even read!

[flickr id=”6392857741″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”ikea3″ align=”none”]

The first thing that was out of ordinary is the fact that they have a washing basin at the entrance! Talk about super accessibility to being hygiene eh?

[flickr id=”6392857949″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”ikea3″ align=”none”]

The next thing we noticed was a foosball table! How super cool is that?!

[flickr id=”6392858125″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”ikea3″ align=”none”]

The resting area, featuring a carom board, plushy sofas (from IKEA of course :P) and waaaaaait, is that a black guitar I see? LOL!

[flickr id=”6392858281″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”ikea3″ align=”none”]

Nearer to the makan area, we found a couple of microwaves! One says halal, the other, non-halal – super thoughtful if you ask me!

[flickr id=”6392858455″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”ikea3″ align=”none”]

And here comes the food area… lemme tell you a secret – IKEA staff pay for the food at cost price, and you WOULDN’T believe how cheap it is over here! Ah, clear benefits working in IKEA hehe. Yummy and healthy too!

[flickr id=”6392858625″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”ikea3″ align=”none”]

And so… we shall tuck in to our much awaited dinner! (funny how you keep looking forward to eat at IKEA, a FURNITURE shop, eh? That’s cause they don’t aim to JUST be a furniture shop

First we had the lovely Open Prawn Sandwich. If you tried it, you’d know how succulent and springy the prawns are, embedded on fluffy mayo on top of wheat grain bread. Yums.

[flickr id=”6392858911″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”ikea3″ align=”none”]

Don’t know if this is in the menu but it certainly is a type of Swedish delicacy!

[flickr id=”6392859071″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”ikea3″ align=”none”]

Even their garnishing has style. Kudos to the chef!

[flickr id=”6392859221″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”ikea3″ align=”none”]Cold Water Prawns RM8.90 – Caught from Greenland’s deep waters, served chilled with lemon & dill to enjoy the subtleties of their delicate flavour.

Try it and you’ll find out why. That is, if you haven’t already. I know a certain company called Wago who often visits there cos the boss @ZainHD loves them!

Sooooooo with so many food there, and not many are as greedy as me, having multiple rounds (won’t tell you how many) , there were obviously plenty of leftovers. That’s where Pin2 and I hatched a devious plan, and before anybody could say or do anything, we quickly slid to a particular section (just behind the counters) and got this JUST before the store closed (made possible

Tock is a happy (and greedy) man! But seriously though, food wastage is no good and I’m doing them a favour by tapaoing them back to my family! Right? Righttt??

Thanks to these beautiful ladies for giving such an awesome time at IKEA. You guys really do know how to throw a party Here’s a last look at how we packed it all in, not even letting the sauces and salad go. Hehe.

[flickr id=”6392861369″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”ikea3″ align=”none”]

Just like McDonalds, IKEA promises that their food, wherever you have them, tastes exactly as good, thus giving you a sense of comfort. At least that’s how I felt about it, the way I experienced them in UK when I was a student, and now here in Malaysia, as a working professional. It’s amazing how they can put a smile on your face no matter what you do there.

How I wish that the two companies I’m currently growing now will adopt a similar messaging to our clients and beneficiaries. That, I think, is the secret to IKEA’s global success

‘Twas another night at Craft Brews where I got to sample the food as well in a more detailed fashion, compared to my last trip there which I blogged about here: Craft Brews, proud to be non-halal.

The first thing I noticed was the superb ambiance every single time I checked in here, at least from the very start of it. The crowd was noticably larger, and we’re talking about very civilized crowd that aren’t too noisy and yet gives you the warmth feeling that you’re not alone. The lighting and the decor too emphasizes on how much it made us feel welcomed, and I think that’s an important factor for returning customers.

The lighting and the decor too emphasizes on how much it made us feel welcomed, and I think that’s an important factor for returning customers. Which of course, made me return :p

So there we were, Joanne Kay and myself, going on a gastronomic journey to sample the sweet combination of meat platters and custom brewed beer right here in the heart of Mutiara Damansara.

First we were served the Pork Based Tomato Soup -Offered with compliments from the kitchen as a means to Surprise & Delight Craft Brew’s dining customers. Savoury and thick, you can taste the broth that must have been brewed overnight, giving a wholesome flavour to it. Not salty too, so thumbs up on that!

The appetizers were served first, which includes the Caramelized Roast Pork 2 -RM16. Although it may not look impressive (or it’s VERY impressively dark, depending on how you view it of course) I do trust my taste buds in saying that it’s good! Every morsel sends a sinful shock into your system, and most importantly, make you feel good Try it!

Spiced Sausages in Bacon Skin -RM18, contrary to it’s namesake, isn’t that spicy after all! This new dish makes for a good sharing starter, easy to eat and also to the stomach especially just before the main course itself. The bacon skin lends it a very yummy taste of course, goes well with your choice of beer

The Bacon ‘n Batter -RM15 will forever be the favourite after Caramelized Roast Pork 2 though, thanks to its nature of being a finger food to go with simply any beverage you have with you! Eaten like french fries, you’d never realise the sinful nature of it before it goes deliciously down into your mouth, your saliva clearly enjoying soaking the morsels turning it into joy juices made especially for your tongue to enjoy! A MUST try!

The main courses then came, starting with the Pork Burger -RM26. Lavished with the following assortment, I thought it was great though if my onions were caramelized further it would have lent an edge to the taste, like a purposeful ‘zing’ to it.

The Burger Add-on Options are somewhat a little above the average price (RM2.50 each) but I guess with the amount they slap on top of that burger, one can’t really argue. Some of the toppings include

Streaky Bacon

Sunny Side-up Egg

Pineapple Slice

Caramelized Onions

Cheese

Of course it all went well with their awesome Potato Wedges and Roasted Hob!

For the non-meat lovers Craft Brews serve the Lemongrass Butter Dory Fillet -RM26 which makes for a good tangy experience. The sauce is a little more special than others, and of course, best eaten hot

But of course we were here for the Tex-Mex Hickory BBQ Back Ribs -RM35 and the Honey Mustard Back Ribs -RM35. From the first time I was here, the cravings for these juicy ribs never died, and to have them again was like a sweet ending to a never ending story. Okay I jest, I want to come back again :p

Once again the ribs is something worth trying, if only they could drop the price a wee bit more, I would definitely go for it more often!

Lastly we had the Moist Chocolate Brownie for RM16. Joanne found it funny that they used cinnamon powder for sprinkles but we were told that it’s merely for the purpose of presentation, and not for taste. I guess they wanted to improve the smell, but sorry la I’m not a big fan of chocolate, so I whollaped on the ice cream instead, so yummy as expected of New Zealand Natural

My next blog entry will be about the alcoholic beverages (what else!) but here’s a teaser to come…

Presenting the RedDot Beers (from left to right):

Czech Pilsner

Monster Green Lager

Weizen

English Ale

What is your favourite? Do give it a try! For your benefit here are some useful info:

Happy Hours: 1 Pint -RM25; Half Pint -RM15; Tower -RM169

Normal Hours: 1 Pint -RM29; Half Pint -RM17; Tower -RM199

And here’s how to go to the venue!

It’s been some time since I was back from London. My beloved second city of sights, smells and traditions. Oh how I missed that place, though by the 7th day I was already rearing to be back home to Malaysia. Why? It’s a s-e-c-r-e-t :p

Anyway. Let me take you to a tour at Ed’s Diner. Yummy, yummy place where Boss Stewie, or rather known as Timothy Tiah now, Qi Zhen and I went once for our annual meet whilst still studying in London.

They had these simply awesome Atomic Onion Rings that came with 5 different dips to choose! Pick either the Chili Con Carne, soft cream cheese, buttery avocado, sour cream or sweet thai chilli sauce

Of course there’s always the Chips with them Chili Con Carne… Looks amazing, no?

Bacon strip burger… non-halal of course!

My orgasmic Peanut Butter and Banana milkshake… It just doesn’t get any better than this, I swear!

First payment done in pounds and pence… AH THE NOSTALGIIA

Greenwich Market

Oh before I end the post… Allow me to show you what REAL roast beef should look like.

Oh and there’s of course the Yorkshire Pudding as well. With lovely New Potatoes, my fav!

THE MOTHER OF ALL SECRETS TO A WHOLESOME MEAL OF BEEF & YORKSHIRE PUDDING:

MOTHERLOAD OF FRESHLY MELTED CHEESE!

Omg omg omg omg look at the heat element melting that huge block of cheese!

The melted cheese will then slide off the main block as it gets really near the heating element, leaving a dollop of hardcore soft, melted cheese on top of them beef slices, onions and yorkshire pudding.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is a perfect example of a simple but gorgeous meal best eaten during the cold days of London. How I wish I can have something like this at home here in Malaysia. Oh wait, I think I CAN! Joanne Kay, are you reading this?

Kthxbai!

Thanks to the great folks at Pizza Hut, we got invitation to savour their new products! I guess I have to say kudos to them for taking the initiative and explore the possibilities of social media using blogs (yes, blogs are considered part of SM too!), Facebook fan page among other things. Much thanks to Lawrence Ding for making this happen!

As usual the usual peeps were invited, their post mentioned below (i’m probably the last one to blog about this, heh) so do pay them a visit for better pictures and descriptions. As for me, I prefer to make you salivate with my own personal angle at these yummylicious food, starting from yummy Honey BBQ Wings!

Okay I think the pictures are everywhere but what the heck! Here’s the latest Crunchy Cheesy Bites to whet your appetite. The reason for the shape is so that you can stick in one finger-sized crunchy sticks into your mouth easily, and proceed to chew smoothly! If you’re daring, you can even eat the prawn shells, like I did :p

God this is so awesome. Spicy BBQ Chicken Wings.

You can definitely see the food piling up, they were pretty generous

The usual favourites were presented as well, no complains there. Beef Pepperoni Pizza

To show that Pizza Hut wasn’t just about Pizzas and their famous chicken wings, we were also encouraged t o try their baked dishes, in which case, this is their cheese baked meatball dish. Pretty bouncy I must add :p

Then of course they have the Thai Tuna Roll bites as well.

And who can ever escaped the Tempura Calamari Rings, crispy in the outside yet juicy in the inside. A must have

In between, Lawrence setted up a huge ass flat screen TV to show us their new ads, and even described how it was made! What a documentary… but of course there was a reason for this: their latest competition to win laptops, flat screen LCDs and much more!

Check it out, more at their Facebook fan page.

If you thought that was just it, you’re wrong! The Maju Junction Mall Pizza Hut team even prepared a few strips of the famous TRIPLE CHEESE STICKS just before they get melted inside the Crunchy Bites base! Made of three different cheeses; Parmesan, Cheddar and Mozarella, they were nothing short but HEAVENLY! What an experience

Jess showing how super stretchy it is lol!

Ken showing how yummylicious it is, eating it just like that lol!

Tasting the Triple Cheese sticks, everyone including our dear witch is full of happy face

Pizzas, Chicken Wings, Cheese Bake, Tempura, what else?

Pastas of course, this is their Prawn Olio.

And the Chicken Meatball Bolognaise. Honestly I prefer the latter more than the former, but that’s cause I prefer more tasty food! What’s your taste?

Finally, the Creamy Carbonara which is the crowd favourite. Confirm la, it’s the most fattening of all ma :p

Anyway the day also coincided with Wilson’s birthday, and though it was evil of me not to wish him throughout the day, it was part and parcel of the plan to surprise him that night. He was surprised for sure, and we were all happy for him. Once again it was many thanks to Pizza Hut for being able to cater for a birthday celebration, very flexible of them to go through lengths to make sure we’re happy

So, happy birthday Wilson!! You definitely made the right choice to spend your birthday with us

This was all made possible thanks to the great hospitality at Maju Junction Mall’s Pizza Hut branch. I wish all of the others would learn from them, especially on the politeness and friendliness of the staff there. Besides that we also got to tell of our good and bad experiences with Pizza Hut from both delivery and eating in angles so that Pizza Hut could work on the feedback to make a better experience for us, and that was certainly a good way to start customer relationships.

In the end, from coming to taste the latest products of what Pizza Hut came to offer, we left with a satisfied, all round great “Getting to know the bloggers” meet and I think all of us were very happy to receive free vouchers as well as a beautifully made 4Gb Thumbdrive from Pizza Hut for us to use. Now, tell me, what other restaurants would go through this amount of effort to make sure their customers are happy? KUDOS Pizza Hut, hope you will continue to support us as we will support you!

ps- Don’t forget to join the contest! – http://www.pizzahut.com.my/dining/highlights_oct_01_e.html

Last week I wanted to attend Daniel Cerventus’s Startup Camp, something I’ve been looking forward to as part of an initiative to push for entrepreneurship development in Malaysia. As the event was located at Gardens, Midvalley, I took a chance by inviting Splashmilk out with me for a lunch date, to which he suggested this little vietnamese restaurant called Codo, interestingly situated just above Little Vietnam. Codo had an even classier look, and judging from their dishes, I would think they serve a more authentic selection of Vietnamese cuisine compared to their counterpart below.

They had a few interesting dishes that were meant to be shared. Luckily for us Prue came along and joined us in our bid to fulfill our hunger. Hence we ordered the starter set above, consisting of a selection of authentic Vietnamese delicacies. I think we need not explain the myriad of flavours bursting from each and every morsel found in that wooden holder, lest the pictures doesn’t do it justice.

Here’s another viewing angle. Note that the salad placed in the middle was supposed to be Dragonfruit, but was instead replaced by Lychee since they were out of Dragonfruits. It was then that we realised Vietnamese food places a lot of emphasis on the sweet sourish nature of their sauces, and that each dishes come in a range of beautiful, exotic colours.

Here’s the 3 of us getting ready to feast ourselves. In actual fact though, Splashmilk aka Mikel had already ordered Beef Noodles prior to our large dishes, yet another famed delicacy in Vietnam. It was great, nicely boiled overnight to give the beef tendons their spongy yet firm texture!

Then came the mother of all motherpieces in Vietname. Ok I kid, but apparently this is quite a dish. Priced at 40++ (I can’t remember) it was yet another burst of colours, flavours and interesting textures. Boy the vietnamese can be really creative if they need to be!

I can’t for the life of me recall the name of this dish, but it was mainly fresh vermicilli topped with all the ingredients as you see above, including freshly grilled pieces of lamb all topped in pieces of fried onions, crumbs and most importantly, their infamous sweet, sour and spicy sauce. It is then all “lou-ed” up into a beautiful looking concoction that looks like what you can see below.

The rest of the day, as you can probably tell, was a full-filling dream no thanks to the over-eating we did in Codo. It was really too much to handle, though we did not regret ordering the Beef Noodles. I guess I would come back again, though, only during the start of the month when my salary comes in! (Okay it’s not that expensive, but still… oh and we had free Vietnamese tea as well!)

It wasn’t until later when the three of us made our way to the South Tower’s office buildings, and there was when we met a lot of cool people, heard exciting speeches and once again, got to see Daniel in his full glory: wearing nothing but khaki shorts, slippers and an official shirt. Now THAT’s what I call a true entreprenuer!

It was really impressive. Thanks to that I met Steven and a couple of others. Read more at Entrepreneurship.my!

True entrepreneurship, as Dan says, is about true simplicity. No need for softwares and all that. This is all the proof you need

Another vegetarian experience came when Zoe and I decided to locate for gooooood vegetarian food! I guess that happens when we have a self-claim vegetarian and another vegetarian food lover within ourselves

So we headed to my favourite and cheap but posh restaurant which was Nan King, located at SS2 area, but it was close at 4pm (yea don’t ask why we were having lunch at 4pm!!!) and couldn’t wait for it to reopen at 6pm. That’s when I suggested trying 1 Utama’s Yishenshu, a place I’ve always wanted to go with Koyuuken who’s my Vegetarian food partner. I miss him

A sneak peak!

Now that I’ve probably got you drooling a little, let’s get on with the review, shall we?

So we found ourselves in front of the restaurant, located right opposite TGIF and to the right of the escalators. It looks super classy and Zoe thought it was gonna be quite expensive. Well, she wasn’t far off the mark but it was still quite decent, with a dish costing from RM7 to RM16 per dish.

We proceeded to order some of the recommended dish they had on the menu. First up was our Wan Tan Noodles with Soy Char Siew.

The noodles were a bit overcooked, but I love how the Char Siew felt so real with its rough texture and tasty… porkish flavour It was meant to be shared, together with one portion of brown rice (for the rest of the dishes) that costed RM2.

Then came the vegetables (in a vegetarian restaurant… duh!) which was really fake Abalone served with Mushrooms and Brocolli. Zoe ate most of this, guess she really loves to keep healthy with the number of greens she eats

Abalone tasted pretty weird, but I suppose you can’t really emulate the real deal eh, otherwise we’ll all happily eat vegetarian food for the rest of our lives and live forever wtf!

Next up was the favourite of our dishes, the Emporer To Fu. Refer to the picture at the top most of this post for its true worth. Tasting so much better than it looks, this dish is a must try! I won’t even want to describe the ingredients, nor the texture of the dish itself, because anything I say won’t do it justice. At all.

Zoe and I had half portion each. And we lapped up the sauce too. The sauce was amazing. How can a sauce be that amazing? I don’t know, but it was. I must go back here to try it again lol. Any takers with me this time round?

The Honey Chicken came shortly after, which didn’t quite make up to par. Then again I wanted to order something else in the menu that caught my eye, which was a recommended dish, but unfortunately they were sold out. Zoe eats the gingers though, so we ended up finishing this dish too, mostly by me of course. Or was it her? I can’t remember now

Fact is, I really don’t remember how much I ate, or how much she ate. I’m being serious. She’s one girl who has an appetite of a…. erm… a leopard? (was that what you wore during Wild Life? lol) but ANYWAY the bottom line of it all is that… she has one hell of an apetite!

Take a look at that look on her face. It says “Hmmphh, this much food isn’t anything to me. Are you looking down on me, now?” HAHAHAHA okay i’m just joking. She was nothing but sweet and did nothing but wolf down the food as much as she could

I would love to talk about our Banana Leaf experience, but that’s a story for another day, right Sue and Yee Hou? XD

So that was the end of our dinner review at Yishensu, 1 Utama, Ground Floor. Service was exceptionaly good, though I was quite disappointed that one of my dishes weren’t available. Price? Just about overpriced, so next time we’ll just settle for Nan King (Dishes there are about RM5-8 after membership discount!) Oh well, every cow has its days apparently

Toodles now!
