With any party, we needed to get through the formality first, so first we had Bruce Dallas, Marketing Director of Guinness Anchor Berhad giving us a speech: “Arthur’s Day celebrates the founder of GUINNESS®, Arthur Guinness, and his remarkable legacy of goodness through music. This year, we pay homage to his bold character and people like him, those who are ‘more’ than just ordinary; much like the Artists that will be rocking the Arthur’s Day stage, our Arthur Guinness Fund recipients and our GUINNESS® drinkers, who choose a GUINNESS® every time.”

The main aim of the party was to reveal the 3 exciting International acts due to perform at Sepang International Circuit, Welcome Centre. I’m actually pleasantly surprised that they have stayed away from the Urban and Hip Hop direction and brought us some proper Rock music and some Dance Pop (I’ll give them that since one of the songs of this band I actually really like)

Application for the Arthur Guinness Fund-British Council (AGF-BC) Social Enterprise Award is open from now until 4^th January 2013. Funding of up to RM40,000 will be granted to up to 6 individuals who are able to come up with a creative business plan that addresses social issues and delivers measurable, transformational change to communities in the country.

Yeap you heard that right!!!! The AGF-BC Social Enterprise Award will be supporting individuals and organizations that are leading or starting innovative project to change Malaysia for the better. Okay I admit I’m not much of a drinker. However if you’re talking about FOOD infused with GUINNESS in however creative way possible, oh boy am I game for it!

Thing is, Saint Patrick’s day is here to come and what’s a better way than to celebrate it with delicious Guinness-infused sweet and mature tasting food at Malones, the Irish center in KL Sentral?

Let’s get on to the review shall we? Made possible thanks to the guys at @NuffnangMY and GAB!

Malones will be having a special menu dedicated to St Patrick’s Festival which is happening this week till the 17th of March (Saint Patrick’s Day itself!) which is really decently priced and best eaten with a pint of Guinness. Do check their website for more information, or join their Facebook page. Otherwise, proceed below for mouth-watering pictures *drools*

But before that, allow me to to share with you how easy it is to get there, as I was there for a meeting with the PwC guys for quite a number of times already- just take the LRT to KL Sentral, then walk aross the road to Sooka Sentral – simple, cheap, easy, no fuss!

Ooooh look at the beautiful pint of Guinness, black is the new gold indeed! By the way apparently Malones is (so far) the only Irish pub in town that is pork-free. I’m sure some friends I know who don’t eat pork will be much more comfortable in here (despite having alcohol around, yes :P)

In any case, let me introduce the others who were invited as well, beginning with this really friendly guy whom is well known in the world of bloggersphere and journalism…

Presenting JasonMumbles (and his line of Guinness froth at his lips ROFL!) – this guy is one humble dude and I’ve yet to know anyone who’s made an enemy out of him (and vice versa!).  Makes a perfect company to go makan-makan with as he’s a super foodie so do visit him at his blog and leave a note ps- he blogged about it here.

Also there was Suanie and KY, one was my ex-wife (but still the friendliest blogger in Malaysia) and the other, a flogger/foodie who if you’ve not yet come to know, it just means you’re dumb LOL. The ones on the right are Hui Ping of G2, and May of Malones of whom we had the pleasure to meet. Thanks for being such great hosts!

Now that’s out of the way, let’s head to the dishes. First we had the Guinness Beef Stew (RM29.90). What is it? Seared beef cubes stewed in Guinness and root vegetables for 4 hours. Served with slices of tuscan bread topped with basil. While the bread provides a tasty treat by itself, you just can’t help but dip it into the thick, aromatic sauce that tasted so good. Each cube of beef lent a tender and sweet experience that makes you go wanting for more. As a fan of carrots, I loved how it blended well with the whole dish, so much so that you could taste the sweet & savoury flavour in every ingredient, nice!

Next up is the Guinness Beef Burger (RM24.90). What is it? Thick beef patty marinated in Guinness, served with pesto mayonnaise and fries. If I were you I’d just go for this, if not just for the brilliant patty and the pesto mayonnaise (a brilliant way to add a dash of green, a sign of St Pat’s touch here!). Not only is the burger soft and juicy, it is most importantly easy to bite into as well considering the size of the patty itself, topped with melted cheese. Huge cuts of fries are also fun to eat! (I had to ask for more mayo, best!)

After that orgasmic burgexperience, then came the long johns – with 3 different type of meat! As you can clearly see KY can’t help but drool over it, yucks

The Irish Sausage on Colcannon and Guinnness Onion Gravy (RM30.90) consisted of lamb, chicken and beef sausages with colcannon. Ah yes, the COLCANNON (mentioned in the title of this blogpost) has become my favourite way to eat my mash potatoes! What is a colcannon? It’s a traditional Irish dish made of mashed potatoes and cabbage, and it really adds a different texture to the mash- brilliantly done! As far as the sausages are concerned- it’s pick your weapon time. Chicken fans will not like the lamb sausages which could prove to be a little overpowering in taste, but as a lamb lover, it was definitely my favourite! The beef came second due to it’s juicy bites and chicken, the last. The whole dish was put together wit an amazing gravy which I lapped up heartily (much to the dismay of my fellow reviewers :P)

Oh and before we move on, note this little green clover. It’s not exactly the lucky clover (of 4 petals) but hey, it’s cute, no? It’s eatable, so do try it

Finally (as we didn’t get to try the brownies that time) came the Malones Beef Ribs with Guinness Sauce (RM29.90). What is it? Braised beef rib with spices, cooked in a low-flamed oven and served with mashed potatoes. Meat galore. Easy to eat. Tender. Juicy. Lacking of sauce but hey, each spoonful is an orgasmic experience. By far my favourite dish and the most worth it (seriously) so do take this up, and let me know how it went for you, cause I can’t remember what happened to me apart from the explosion of taste and texture in my mouth. Only thing I wished is for the green mash potatotes (it’s pesto,btw) to be replaced ith Colcannon. Nothing beats that one, serious!

Oh God, that was brilliantly wonderful. Now to just sit back and enjoy my pints of Guinness

Again I repeat: this special menu will be available at Malones from now till St Patrick’s Day (17th march). On that day itself, that you can join in, which will depart from Malones @ The Curve at 6pm, and you will get to eat and drink on the bus, all the way to your next 3 stops – Malones KLCC, Malones Pavillion and finally Malones Sooka Sentral where the party continues all night long – all for RM99 nett! To summarize, it’s going to be free-flow of Guinness and food. Nuff’ said? Purchase your bus tickets from any of the Malones outlets then

Overall it was a great experience here at Malones… The right ambience (dim, cooling), right crowd (the people who visit here are professionals- no annoying kids!) and of course, a great makan company will always make everything better for us. I had an early Christmas Celebration this year, thanks to GUINNESS®. In fact, they launched their 2010 MERRY GUINNESS® celebration countdown with a nationwide campaign, held throughout the month of December, and we’re were some of the lucky few who were part of it!

Saw many of the usual blogger friends there, and kinda exclusive too, with bloggers like FourFeetNine, Tim Tiah and Ringo making an appearance! Well, I guess mostly the Nuffnangers la, while I was blessed enough to be invited on a personal basis, which reminded me of that time I got the chance to meet Black Eyed Peas the same way too, during Arthur’s Day last year together with Kenny Sia! Santa has been very happy with me I guess… Santa Guinness that is!

So basically the reason we were there is to enjoy our pint (s) of Guinness with a Christmas feast to remember! The day’s tagline is “Merry Guinness. Share the Magic this Christmas!” – hence we were entertained with lots of activities and performances!

Here’s my portion. Eh wait, my FIRST portion! I obviously had to go a few rounds right… at least before I started my workout at Celebrity Fitness with my Personal Trainer Syakirin. He would KILL me if I ate this much during my 6 months stint with CF!

The selection was a-plenty and honestly, it gave a really awesome Christmassy atmosphere to the whole ambience :))

Coupled with a few sweet decors here and there, it was truly mindblowing

Then of course there are the nuts. What’s Christmas without nuts? Remember Chip & Dale? Yes, now you remember

There was this mountain of Macaroons that very stubbornly got stuck onto the mound. Funny to watch her trying to pull it out

After inviting Yapthomas.com and Hanson, my awesome ‘blogger’ friend (inside joke, lol) we were whisked to KL Hilton at 4.30pm where some 70-odd numbers of the media were present, all waiting for the arrival of the stars who certainly took their time!

I spotted a few familiar faces including my good friend Azri from Universal Studios, Elaine Chow from Grey, Kimcun and ShaolinTiger, last but not least Mr Arthur Guinness Himself. Of course I got to know a few other people as well to work with my projects, it was really good fun!

Having my G1 allowed me to go to places that I don’t usually dare if I only had my Lumix LX2, including going so close to them. Throughout the time I could never explain the luck I felt within me

A press conference, or a media conference, after all, isn’t something easy to have in the first place. This really shows that whatever little branding I managed to do for myself really does work! Come on bloggers, you have the power!

Yes, power, like this Mr Arthur Guinness wannabe aka Kenny Sia who really did take everyone’s attention. No wonder he’s Malaysia’s number one lifestyle blogger eh? Bloody daring I say!

And this shot is for all Fergie fans out there. I was still considering a dare from a friend to ‘do’ something with her that will surely put me up in many magazines all around the world. But I chickened out No wonder I not fehmes laaaaaa hehe

But to be honest, all you have to do is believe in yourself. I thought I’ve gotten my tickets to Arthur’s birthday yesterday night already, a week before the event itself. But I did not, and thankfully, did not waver and be desperate. The next thing I know, I killed two birds with one stone: a call from the PR asked me to attend the media conference, at the same time offering me a Media All-Access pass for the night! I don’t know what garnered the call, or why me, but I’d like to be appreciative and say THANK YOU!

And so, it was a perfect start to the evening that was about to come, a live performance from the Black Eyed Peas who were totally rocking the event with their top hits that EVERYONE can sing along to. It was truly an awesome night, which deserves its own post, surely.

I had the pleasure to accompany Cindy Tey, otherwise known as Jade Zheng, to a blogger’s makan and minum session at G.A.B. (that’s Guinness Anchor Berhad) and though we had a heavy downpour , I still managed to arrive at her place in time and send the both of us to G.A.B. factory located at the left side of the “fake” penang bridge going towards Kepong/Sunway (really, you can’t miss it!)

Inside the vast compound there were a few buildings, each with their specific functions.

We were led to Building 2, which wasn’t the building where they brew fresh drafts of beer (I was honestly disappointed but Jasmine who works for Heineken said she might do a tour one day!) but where they placed an English-looking pub-esque bar for their staff and guests to have a pint or two after a hard day’s work.

Just looking at the bar above brings back nostalgic memories of my days in London

Then there was this really nice Saxophonic looking dispenser, it looks so cool that I couldn’t resist putting it up here without any reason whatsoever lol.

Anyway on with the show!

Have you heard of the joke where for every pint of beer you drink, your partner looks better and better?

Well, apparently it’s true according to certain researchers! However in this context, and I testify for it myself, Cindy never changed throughout my Heineken-filled night; she looked as gorgeous as ever from the beginning to the end!

The Heineken Affair

One of the latest initiative by Heineken all around the world is their launch of their latest online gaming project called the Star Finale 2009 that I found really exciting!

Those who’ve heard of their past gaming initiatives will know that this is by no means new, in fact, the last event I’d been to was soccer-related in a bid to win this 3-player online game in order to win a trip fully sponsored by Heineken to Krabi!

My team which consisted of Andrew and Joshua lost out to KY‘s team, made of Suanie and Horny Horng (and it was all my fault *whimpers*) who later went on to win the game, which will mean they get sent to Krabi to watch one of the biggest Champion League game (Suanie would probably just enjoy the stars drinking Heineken, dunno what she’ll want to do with those balls anyway )

I, meanwhile, would prefer to eye myself on the Star Final: Journey to the finale! and win it with style

Creating and customizing your own ship, allowing it to journey for at least 5 days and at the same time able to drop messages for your fellow friends or enemies to read (HAHA SLOW POKE!) and imagining their creaming faces when they receive them, and to top it all… combining into one super large fleet of forces all heading towards the same path, lead by our Nuffnang leaders Tim and Ming to collect major points, doesn’t all that sound so exciting for you?!

Well it does for me, so why don’t you all go ahead and head to http://starfinal.com and register first, and when Tim finally starts his fleet we can all join forces to create the largest fleet ever to cross the ocean! (Don’t forget we’re competing with other countries as well! As far as I know Italy is already having more than 200 registered users since the site launched 3 days ago)

Many of us were quite excited as it was explained to us. It then occurred to me that this could be the reason for us being gathered together that night, but Natasha of Compass Communications tells me that it really is for providing us free food and free flow of Heineken all night long. Go figure *winks*

And oh looky what we have here. Like watch cinema is it, the two of you! sheesh lol.

Audrey finding it hard to reach for the levers. In actual fact you have to know when to start pulling the lever, and when to stop.

Done correctly, you won’t overspill the foam which is a skill that takes months of experience to achieve!

Robb shows that you need muscles to pull off a good tap. Unfortunately for him he’s giving the wrong focus here; concentrate on the tapping man, not the showing off!

Tim takes his stand; he was supposed to be the saviour of the male species since the girls were doing far better than the guys. Unfortunately he didn’t know another secret of tapping was to put the frosted mug in exactly 45 degrees to reduce the foam!

You’d think Gareth the White Man would pull it off like a natural. Think again, his overconfidence literally overflowed as he confidently took a gamble at pulling a quick draft equated to spilling more than a quarter of its contents.

And so the newly-botak Kenny took the stage. With all eyes concentrated on him, he tried pulling off all the secrets that he learned while watching the rest make a fool of themselves.

It was an epic failure. He forgot that the final secret to tapping is that the pressure used to START moving the lever up and STOP by placing the lever back in place has to be very precise in order to create no foam in the beginning, and a little foam at the end.

Kinda like the opposite of what he achieved. LAWL.

is the inability to control themselves when the cameras are out and hunting. The rest of the pictures constitutes glamorous camwhoring and classic posing, feel free to puke at disgust in our vanity and self-absorbed nature.

Before we adjourned, Cindy decided to be naughty and took a glass of Guinness Draft. Not a very nice thing to do since our dear Jasmine, Heineken’s BRAND MANAGER (lol) was right beside us

And finally our very own Simon Seow who magically pops out of everywhere, til the point when one never gets surprised anymore to see Simon wherever we go. lol!
