I stumbled upon a gold mine recently. A gold mine so beautiful, I had to go back many times in order to appreciate the ambiance – a mix of smokey cigar skies, a hint of sexy cologne and wafts of the sweet scent of good whisky. The perfect place to strike million ringgit projects for sure.

Located at Damansara Heights, the medium sized haven is one of the few cigar bars that serves a good mix of top quality alcohol as well as Dilmar tea, suited for those looking for an intimate night be it with your partners, investors, or that sophisticated lady you’re looking to impress.

Opened by a group of young chaps who knows what living quality life is all about, The Divan is meant to be a quiet spot with two main areas – the lounge where the bar is, and the VIP room upstairs. Both show exclusivity with the usage of premium furnitures, cosy spaces and exceptional service as expected from a premium spot.

And impress it did, says Katherine, who had no problems finding the venue situated right behind the Kuala Lumpur Sports Medicine Centre, near HELP University.

Introducing Jeremy Tay, one third of the founders who is responsible for, well, one third of the operations here. He gladly took us around and got us sorted with some ground rules, ie, no vaping allowed. Yeap, The Divan is exclusive to cigars and cigarettes – not for the faint hearted, but for those who want to take anything to the next level. Like our uber cool portrait photos.

‘Twas another night at Craft Brews where I got to sample the food as well in a more detailed fashion, compared to my last trip there which I blogged about here: Craft Brews, proud to be non-halal.

The first thing I noticed was the superb ambiance every single time I checked in here, at least from the very start of it. The crowd was noticably larger, and we’re talking about very civilized crowd that aren’t too noisy and yet gives you the warmth feeling that you’re not alone. The lighting and the decor too emphasizes on how much it made us feel welcomed, and I think that’s an important factor for returning customers.

So there we were, Joanne Kay and myself, going on a gastronomic journey to sample the sweet combination of meat platters and custom brewed beer right here in the heart of Mutiara Damansara.

First we were served the Pork Based Tomato Soup -Offered with compliments from the kitchen as a means to Surprise & Delight Craft Brew’s dining customers. Savoury and thick, you can taste the broth that must have been brewed overnight, giving a wholesome flavour to it. Not salty too, so thumbs up on that!

The appetizers were served first, which includes the Caramelized Roast Pork 2 -RM16. Although it may not look impressive (or it’s VERY impressively dark, depending on how you view it of course) I do trust my taste buds in saying that it’s good! Every morsel sends a sinful shock into your system, and most importantly, make you feel good Try it!

Spiced Sausages in Bacon Skin -RM18, contrary to it’s namesake, isn’t that spicy after all! This new dish makes for a good sharing starter, easy to eat and also to the stomach especially just before the main course itself. The bacon skin lends it a very yummy taste of course, goes well with your choice of beer

The Bacon ‘n Batter -RM15 will forever be the favourite after Caramelized Roast Pork 2 though, thanks to its nature of being a finger food to go with simply any beverage you have with you! Eaten like french fries, you’d never realise the sinful nature of it before it goes deliciously down into your mouth, your saliva clearly enjoying soaking the morsels turning it into joy juices made especially for your tongue to enjoy! A MUST try!

The main courses then came, starting with the Pork Burger -RM26. Lavished with the following assortment, I thought it was great though if my onions were caramelized further it would have lent an edge to the taste, like a purposeful ‘zing’ to it.

The Burger Add-on Options are somewhat a little above the average price (RM2.50 each) but I guess with the amount they slap on top of that burger, one can’t really argue. Some of the toppings include

• Streaky Bacon
• Sunny Side-up Egg
• Pineapple Slice
• Caramelized Onions
• Cheese

Of course it all went well with their awesome Potato Wedges and Roasted Hob!

For the non-meat lovers Craft Brews serve the Lemongrass Butter Dory Fillet -RM26 which makes for a good tangy experience. The sauce is a little more special than others, and of course, best eaten hot

But of course we were here for the Tex-Mex Hickory BBQ Back Ribs -RM35 and the Honey Mustard Back Ribs -RM35. From the first time I was here, the cravings for these juicy ribs never died, and to have them again was like a sweet ending to a never ending story. Okay I jest, I want to come back again :p

Once again the ribs is something worth trying, if only they could drop the price a wee bit more, I would definitely go for it more often!

Lastly we had the Moist Chocolate Brownie for RM16. Joanne found it funny that they used cinnamon powder for sprinkles but we were told that it’s merely for the purpose of presentation, and not for taste. I guess they wanted to improve the smell, but sorry la I’m not a big fan of chocolate, so I whollaped on the ice cream instead, so yummy as expected of New Zealand Natural

My next blog entry will be about the alcoholic beverages (what else!) but here’s a teaser to come…

If this doesn’t make your mouth water, I don’t know what will! Presenting you the latest ultimate bar in town, also known as Craft Brews. They are so advanced that they even have a solid working Twitter account, so do FOLLOW them for LOTS of FREEBIES and DISCOUNTS!

Crafty Craft Brews offers beer connoisseurs a whole new drinking and dining experience, starting with their international microbrewery look, yet maintaing a chic, casual and cosy setting. Looking at the place, it probably fits around 45 people comfortably, perfect for a relaxing corporate evening out!

There’s also an additional space outdoors for those who prefer to wine and dine al fresco. It’s huge capacity outside allows for up to a further 88 seats in total. All will enjoy not only scrumptious non-halal food to go with their home-brewed beers, but the variety of these rare, unique unfiltered beers makes Craft Brews something out of the ordinary, at least in Malaysia!

Utilizing microbreweries around the region, Craft Brews serves up to four draft and 10 bottled beer selections, where two coloured beers from Singapore-based Reddot Brewhouse will be the Restaurant’s signature, premium beers. They are called the Monster Green Lager and the English Ale respectively, served fresh on tap, yum! But more on that later.

Oh did I tell you being invited also entitles you to a set of ingredients needed to brew your very own home-brewed beer, among other perks (ie LOOK AT MY VIP CARD!!!)

THEN THE MEGA POP CAME IN! Look at them beautiful towers… don’t you wish you own them? I know you do Well, at least Jessica does haha!

This is when the free flow starts and everyone sings in tune together

Food. OMG. NON HALAL FOOD. Let me try and decipher for you what’s in those plates:

1. Back Ribs – complete

with three kinds of style: Honey Mustard, sweet Malt and Maple Glaze, or tangy and smoky Tex-Mex Hickory BBQ Sauce!
2. Caribbean Spice Chicken and corn cobs, served with yummy portions of home-made wedges (freaking good!!)
3. Lemongrass Butter Grilled Dory Fillet (halal, but nevertheless yummylicious!)
4. Lamb Shank. Word.

The foodies, Ah Bok, Sloppy Chic and BBO also came. It was a meat-crunching galore I tell you, nothing was safe with them around!

April Yim decided to get something different. Here’s the Scampi Aglio Olio pasta which was pretty good. Luckily we were too full otherwise we’d have their desserts which sounded pretty yummy to us! Read:

1. Chocolate-filled Banana Fritters
2. Cinnamon Apple Pie
3. Papaya and Grape Melange
4. Premium ice cream flavours~!

The day was later spent with some games among others, with free vouchers to give out. Here’s Shaolin Tiger doing the tasting test… and I don’t think he got it right, not with the number of beer selections that was available! I swear I could taste the Spirulina though, which is the ingredient contained in the Monster Green Lager, which is, well, green.

It was truly a fantastic evening for us, thanks to the people at @craftbrews for having us around. It was kind of the first time seeing different groups of blogosphere all congregating at the same place. I will surely visit this place again

And if you do visit it, do call me along! Why? Cause i have this pretty awesome VIP discount card that allows me 30% discount on food items! (not on drinks, sorry :P) and best of all, I’m supposedly the only one that has the card that’s valid till 31st of December 2010!! How cool is that haha… not even the REAL beer drinkers nor the #porkgang has them. *does the victory dance
