We were greeted and given souvenirs to keep thanks to Firefly. They’ve made us feel at home throughout the journey, and hopefully this will be maintained from now till forever more

Straight after we landed, we were given a special lane in order to make it straight for the Press Conference. The Managing Director of Malaysia Airports Ybhg Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak, YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan and other local media and media personal from KL were all there! This was also when I met Pierce aka @comeez for the first time, who was the best host ever throughout my stay in Kuching

After that we were taken by bus to a location far, far away from the city. This was where I digested certain facts like knowing that Firefly recently won the ‘2010 Frost and Sullivan Value Airline of the Year” award and “Green Initiative of the year 2010” awards by Leaders in Aviation Award in conjunction with the Doha Aviation Summit 2010. As Rose explained to us, I begin to understand that these guys are also just coming up like a startup. The difference with their competitor is just that they have a little more help from MAS who owns them. Well, maintain the service standards and I say you’re on your way to success!

In any case, we stopped halfway around to get some grub. The rest of us took our leave and looked for food… and as we all know Rebecca Saw aka @wackybecky the food blogger can never get enough of food!

This was the first dish we ate here, the supposedly delicious Beef Noodles aka Kampua Mee? However we were disappointed. @comeez later told us that he’ll bring us to a better

place, we can’t help but feel excited!

Then there was this delicious looking fried chicken. However we were disappointed too. I guess we just didn’t know what to order!

Then came the saving grace – Kolo Mee with Red Sauce! Well, that’s pretty much full lard in there, as non-halal as can be. It wasn’t the best, but hey, I loved it so much (and I love this pic of it too- it’s now the current wallpaper for my iPad :P)

Oh but before we go on, let’s introduce ourselves shall we? This here is Joshua Wong and Rebecca Saw. They are both popular bloggers and they’ve blogged so much about Sarawak already so just visit their website at http://tallboyz.blogspot.com/ and http://rebeccasaw.com!

And on the other end of the table, yours truly aka @spinzer and Shannon Chow of @shannonchowz! Nothing much to say about me but hey, Shannon Chow is respectable yo! She does so many things at one time I wonder how she keeps up with the workload Visit her website at http://www.shannonchow.com/

After makaning we went walking before getting on the bus to go to our mysterious location. The first thing we noticed is that there’s PLENTY OF BANANAS and this exists in every wet market there is in Sarawak!! Gosh, and there are so many sizes too… I wonder if it reflects a certain something of the Kuchingites keh keh keh…

Then of course there were many selling the infamous Kuih Lapis… and boy, look at the kind of variety they have! It’s cheap too, selling at RM10.00 per packet. But hey, we just arrived and won’t want to have everything spoilt by the time we get home and give it to our loves ones, so we decided to give it a skip.

And up we go into the bus and meet the rest of the crew who we now know are the Wake The Baby team and their famous artists! Soon after an hour or so…

… we arrived at the venue of the infamous Rainforest World Music Festival. Oh the hot babes <3

So let’s cut to the chase shall we?

The lot of us were invited to travel to Kuching, Sarawak on a Media Tour in conjunction with Fireflyz‘s first inaugural flight from KLIA to Kuching on the 15th of January of 2011!

I didn’t know a lot of the people on this entourage, but I DO know these young peeps Tallboyz and ShannonChowz! They’ve all blogged about about this trip already, so I will link them at the bottom just so to force you to read the post

FY 0602 – That was our flight! Excited we are, along with the rest of the entourage. There was even some VIPs with us, but that’s a story for another post…

Okay la, at least show ONE VVIP – Shaz my bro! (the other guy dowan to be introduced lol)

We were all given the Firefly Media Tag, and to tell you the truth, it does feel pretty cool

Just to share with you a feel of this new refurbished plane. More spacious granted, but they could use some new stuff la. Oh well, budget airline, no? Service from the stewardesses aren’t too bad, too!

Remembering how Kenny Sia shot to his AirAsia fame a long time ago when he took a picture of AA’s Nasi Lemak vs what it looked like on the inflight magazine, we followed through in hope that one day FireFly might treat us specially

But we were sorely disappointed- it looked EXACTLY like how it does in the magazine (see pic). Looks like Firefly does know how to learn from other ppl’s (airline’s) mistakes

Costing RM9, it was definitely a value deal. We got it free though, so we’re not complaining. We all ate our food with no complaints whatsoever, yes, even Jerine Lay, master of bitching, here

Well the journey didn’t take too long for us! It was just about, what, 1-3 hours? Can’t remember d, anyone can help? Haha…

And before I knew it.. I landed on the land of cats. This makes my second trip to Kuching- the first 5 years ago, with my family, and kindly hosted by a blogger friend whom I have never met in real life- June of JustAnotherTragedy.com. However, today, I’d like to share with you the beginning of a meaningful trip filled with knowledge and culture sharing session at the Sarawak Cultural Village, my food escapades and most importantly, the bonds I’ve made with friends I made there including the famous artists, well known magazine editors like Min and the respectable and friendly Iban, Leo!
