Visit Pulau Keladi Cultural Village

The Pulau Keladi Cultural Village is a collection of buildings that include; the traditional Malay village houses that make up the cultural display, a memorial hall dedicated to Malaysia’s second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak and the Pahang Silk Weaving Centre.

5pm               : Leave for Kuantan (Stop at Martabak Makkasar restaurant)
7pm               : Check in at hotel
8pm               : Dinner

9pm onwards meet up with you guys!

Visit Gua Charas

Charas Cave lies near the foot of the imposing 1,000m-high limestone Panching Hill. Housed inside one of the caves is a statue of the reclining Buddha. You need to climb about 100 concrete steps to reach the lower cave. Other notable sites include rock formations resembling the Chinese goddess Kwan Yin, an elephant, a preening princess, a royal tombstone, a fish and a nose-like formation.

5pm               : Leave for Kuantan
6pm               : Check-in at Zenith Hotel
8pm               : Dinner at Tanjung Lumpur

Blogging live from RH Hotel in the midnight, here’s what I think of Sibu’s unique selling points:-

1. You get to… eat MAGGOTS living in ROTTEN BAMBOO TREES! Yucksss LOL! Ok la it’s called Sago Worms XD

2.You get to drink with the Mayor of Sibu district, and it’s one of the most hardcore tuak of all –The Arak Ubat Ku Pun!

3.You get to eat in Rasa Sayang, recommended by Sui Tua Pui! Only three dishes sold: Mee Laksa, Mee Sapi, Kampua. Kampua is definitely our favourite, char siew and lard power! Best of all: only RM2.50 wtf. Then the beef noodles, soup was gorgeously tasty and finally laksa was a little bland, but possibly because we’re used to our curry-ish flavour.

Oh, and the 3 Masam drink is AWESOM3! Lemon, lime and somboi – wicked!

4.You get to eat them sago worms… LIVE!! Watch out for more pics, more reviews AND THE EPIC VIDEO!!

5.You get to see Paper Wrapped Chicken (Chi Bao Kai) in it’s TRUEST FORM… only in Sibu LOL!

6.You get to find beautifully wrapped Nasi Lemak at the Pasar Malam!

7.You get to do #PLANKING in the middle of the river

8.And that was on one of the most classic cruise ships I’ve seen!

9.You get to enjoy acupuncture! Couldn’t feel the needles in my feet, no thanks to the Standard Chartered KL Marathon LOL

10.You get to enjoy Kompia, one of the yummiest staple diet in Sibu… people buy these in truckloads to distribute around Malaysia yo!

11.You get to meet the great Sui Tua Pui, who pointed us to the right place to makan, told us many stories (and facts!) of Sibu and generally one of the friendliest person you’ll ever get to meet!

12.You get to stay in one of Sibu’s 4 star hotel (RH Hotel) with decent internet connection (don’t expect much) and most importantly, near to some of the better makan places out in Sibu

And finally… you get to enjoy the view of them beautiful clouds on the way to Sibu, just a short 4 hour trip (CORRECTION -it’s a TWO, 2, ni, er- hour trip!! Thanks STP for the correction ) away and needing just your IC and some money in the wallet. It’s that easy to enjoy some of the amazing experience Sibu has in store for you.

We were greeted and given souvenirs to keep thanks to Firefly. They’ve made us feel at home throughout the journey, and hopefully this will be maintained from now till forever more

Straight after we landed, we were given a special lane in order to make it straight for the Press Conference. The Managing Director of Malaysia Airports Ybhg Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak, YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan and other local media and media personal from KL were all there! This was also when I met Pierce aka @comeez for the first time, who was the best host ever throughout my stay in Kuching

After that we were taken by bus to a location far, far away from the city. This was where I digested certain facts like knowing that Firefly recently won the ‘2010 Frost and Sullivan Value Airline of the Year” award and “Green Initiative of the year 2010” awards by Leaders in Aviation Award in conjunction with the Doha Aviation Summit 2010. As Rose explained to us, I begin to understand that these guys are also just coming up like a startup. The difference with their competitor is just that they have a little more help from MAS who owns them. Well, maintain the service standards and I say you’re on your way to success!

In any case, we stopped halfway around to get some grub. The rest of us took our leave and looked for food… and as we all know Rebecca Saw aka @wackybecky the food blogger can never get enough of food!

This was the first dish we ate here, the supposedly delicious Beef Noodles aka Kampua Mee? However we were disappointed. @comeez later told us that he’ll bring us to a better

place, we can’t help but feel excited!

Then there was this delicious looking fried chicken. However we were disappointed too. I guess we just didn’t know what to order!

Then came the saving grace – Kolo Mee with Red Sauce! Well, that’s pretty much full lard in there, as non-halal as can be. It wasn’t the best, but hey, I loved it so much (and I love this pic of it too- it’s now the current wallpaper for my iPad :P)

Oh but before we go on, let’s introduce ourselves shall we? This here is Joshua Wong and Rebecca Saw. They are both popular bloggers and they’ve blogged so much about Sarawak already so just visit their website at http://tallboyz.blogspot.com/ and http://rebeccasaw.com!

After makaning we went walking before getting on the bus to go to our mysterious location. The first thing we noticed is that there’s PLENTY OF BANANAS and this exists in every wet market there is in Sarawak!! Gosh, and there are so many sizes too… I wonder if it reflects a certain something of the Kuchingites keh keh keh…

Then of course there were many selling the infamous Kuih Lapis… and boy, look at the kind of variety they have! It’s cheap too, selling at RM10.00 per packet. But hey, we just arrived and won’t want to have everything spoilt by the time we get home and give it to our loves ones, so we decided to give it a skip.

And up we go into the bus and meet the rest of the crew who we now know are the Wake The Baby team and their famous artists! Soon after an hour or so…

… we arrived at the venue of the infamous Rainforest World Music Festival. Oh the hot babes <3

However this time I have the pleasure to be on a sponsored trip to Kuching along with some other bloggers notably Rebecca Saw and Jerine Lay, thanks to Firefly! So far, everything seems to be pretty organized from our trip at KL Sentral to the airport to the arrangement at our destination for 4 days 3 nights in total. Let’s hope it stays that way

I just need to remember to bring along my booking or PNR number and identification (acceptable forms are original MYKad and original passport) to board. Somebody please remind me? haha!

The Sarawak Tourism Board has advised us that it can get chilly at night if it rains, so I am probably going to take along my jacket. On top of that, my 20kg baggage limit will be filled with outdoor shoes and gear cause we were informed that there’s going to be some outdoor activities such as an easy jungle trek. (how easy, I don’t know!)

Oh and the reason for this media event is because we’ll be flying on the Firefly Boeing 737 – 800. Yes, it’s the launch together with a Media Fam Trip in Kuching. And we’ll be staying at the Sarawak Cultural Village w00t!!
