Just the other day @zique aka Mike Yip came over to visit our @SocialGrooves office at Damansara Intan, and we took the chance to visit Toast & Roast Restaurant which I never visited before despite working here for more than a year!

[flickr id=”6806174990″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

Needless to say, the greedy part of us ordered plenty of food, definitely too many for just the two of us, and this is what we had…

[flickr id=”6952287937″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

The Hakka Noodles here are pretty good, and you could tell that they used lard to give it the extra ooomph! Decently priced at RM5.50 for the large portion too. I can’t really eat “chu yau char” or pork crackling in English, but if you like that, you’ll love this. Hence, this place is not halal *duh*

[flickr id=”6952287703″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

The Char Siew is also one of the main attraction of this place. Although it cannot beat my favourite place (can’t tell you where!) it is still pretty juicy and tasty, and definitely goes well with my Hakka noodles, yum! Make sure you order the “pun fei sau” for maximum sin!

[flickr id=”6952287845″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

Not really a big fan of the roast pork, but hey if you like it, it taste decent. Still, it doesn’t give the “melt in your mouth” feeling like that other restaurant does. Still not telling you which one

[flickr id=”6952288131″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

The taugeh is decent, and adds a light flavour to the already heavy tasting dishes we had. Anyway, I’ll always recommend you to get this unless the texture sucks, which in this case, doesn’t.

[flickr id=”6806175160″ thumbnail=”medium_640″ overlay=”true” size=”medium_640″ group=”” align=”none”]

We added meatballs to the fray and found it lovingly tender, so I’ll add that too if I were you. Otherwise it was a great lunch and we even sempat tapau for @catallus85 who was waiting in the office. Later on Mike would then give me tips and advices to run @socialgrooves, and I’ll be forever thankful to him if we can grow by 200 fold this year. Here’s to a great year ahead, buddy!

Did that tickle your taste buds? It should. Vegetarian, non-halal, whichever background you come from, if these pictures don’t make you salivate (you don’t have to eat it, right? :P) then there’s something wrong with your tastebuds.
Did that tickle your taste buds? It should. Vegetarian, non-halal, whichever background you come from, if these pictures don’t make you salivate (you don’t have to eat it, right? :P) then there’s something wrong with your tastebuds. Or should I say, eyes. lol.

Anyway presenting one of the best places to eat Honey Barbequed Pork Ribs, among others such as Char Siew, Siu Yoke etc. I know I know, you’re gonna ask isn’t Tengkat Tong Shin there the best place for these delicacies? My answer: PRICE. I will not pay for overpriced good food, simply because I think honesty is best preserved in the food business.

You do not cut your valued customer’s throats, in ANY segment. As far as the food industry is concerned, this applies as well. Well, here in Jalan Angsoka, KL, you’ll get good pricing as well as tasty, yummy dishes! Even looking at these pictures again makes me want to grab my computer screen and take a bite off it.

Of course Roast Chicken and Duck are also served here, as with many stalls of similar kind. Tender meat, tasty duck, all goods and passes with no complains from me.

Maybe something else worth trying is the rice and sauce. I have something with rice and sauces, as in back then in London, I used to go Four Seasons to have multiple rice portions eaten with just the sweetish sauce, without any meat! Well in this case it was worth doing the same, I really loved the sauce here, goes so well with the meat. As for the rice, I love it that it’s not too butterily tasty, just enough to give the dash of aroma complementing the delicacies spread before me.

Veggies are plentiful as well. We decided to go for sour & spicy veggie that was served piping hot. Unfortunately it wasn’t that tasty, nor spicy or sour, a little unimpressive if you ask me. Must try other veggie dishes maybe when I’m back here again.

This review was made available thanks to Jason Sim, my buddy. His pictures can be found here and the way to get here is also really easy coming from Pavilion or Wisma Genting, Raja Chulan Monorail station. One just needs to get to the Istana Hotel and head around it to find this large tree behind Hotel Istana, and that’s where you will find this little chicken rice stall
