Social Media: Best method of communication for brands?

Now we all know that all companies try their best to find the most effective way to communicate with their existing and prospective buyers, and I’m sure that the vice-versa is true as well; most people do want to find out more information about their favourite brand without having to face spammy stuff which can get pretty annoying. Who’s with me here?

The official Crocs Bloggers!

Crocs Malaysia, my preferred footwear for all occasions and also whom I am an official blogger for (the earlier first, latter second :p) is constantly trying to find an answer to that too. I thought it might be great that we source the answers from friends and family then, at least we will be able to identify two things at the end of the day:

1. If Crocs Malaysia were to send out a communiqué (for example, like a loyalty programme thingie) which method would you prefer: Facebook, Website, Direct e-mailing, SMS or Twitter? (notice I left out non-social media methods like TV ads and door to door flyers- they are out of fashion imho!)

2. If YOU were interested in a brand, SAY LA, Crocs (which I know a lot of you do :P) and want to find out more about it, say by giving YOUR contact information out, which would you be most comfortable to give out from the list above? I know it’s definitely not your address, like I said, we all don’t like spam do we?

At the end of the day, it’s about finding the right balance between the way how Crocs Malaysia sends out the information (of course they do as they have monthly promotions plus announcements of clearance sales!) and the way how YOU would best receive it- and it all boils down to a method of communication we can all compromise with 😉

Added to that, the best few replies to question 1 and 2 will receive an exclusive premium by Crocs worth RM89 each- a super handy shoe bag! If you haven’t won any from previous contests in my fellow official Crocs blogger’s site,  then try your luck here- trust me it’s way easier since I’ve probably the least visitors among all of them 😛

By the way, do follow Crocs Malaysia on both Twitter and Facebook, also do visit their website at http://www.crocs.com.my/ to find out existing communications method.

So give me your answers to points 1 and 2, now!

  • i personally prefer SMS actually cos it’s not guaranteed that i’ll have access to the net (and i believe most ppl carry a phone with them 24/7 now, i know you do!) but of course, email is another alternative if I chose not to disclose my personal information 🙂

  • I would vote for facebook because almost everybody is On it!! (mostly those Generasi Y :p)

All of the above would be given out if necessary but please don’t make it redundant lol

  • 1. Sms too because I might miss out e-mails, tweets or facebook notifications especially when I’m busy with work/away from the web. The mobile phone will be with me more often =)
    2. I’m fine to give out my mobile number, twitter, facebook and email if i’ve real interest with a specific brand ^^ , other than that, unsolicited information are cohttp://comluv.com/nsidered as a spam.

  • I would say FACEBOOK for sure its the most IN thing now and effective because there are a lot of FACEBOOK ADDICT around and information could go far more beyond than you expected!…..and I would suggest to get in touch via FACEBOOK as well because nowadays people are aware of their safety….you might not know what could lead you into as it is unsafe to give out phone and email?? when you have lots of email…trust me yours will be at the bottom list…people log in to facebook is when they want to relax themselves and this is the best way to feed information as this is when they will come to you instead of you trying to force information to them.

  • 1)In my opinion, Facebook definitely the best method for Crocs Malaysia to send out their communique as this social network takes over the TOP SPOT while Twitter is climbing the ranks. 😉

2)I would most comfortable to give out my email address, might as well my facebook profile as the 2nd option. =)

  • 1st question:I would definitely prefer facebook, because i check my facebook everyday!Other than that it’s less annoying than sms and cheaper too.
2nd question:I feel safer to give out my email because i don’t like receiving sms all the time afraid it might interrupt me during my classes.=D

  • I personally prefer SMS compare to other platform that listed as Jacquelyn had mention. Secondly I prefer facebook, bcos a lot of things can b done in it & to attract youngsters. Thirdly is direct email.

    I can b contacted by
    facebook: facebook.com/patrick.liew
    twitter: @patricklkw

  • My lecturer always say that we’re living in an info overload society. LOL. So it’s vital for companies to have the correct approach when approaching potential and existing customers. Good topic. =) Here are my answers:-

    1. Facebook is a good way since I’m always looking at updates there. However, I personally prefer getting promotion info through direct e-mailing because it has a more personal feel for me and thus gets more interest from me. And also because e-mails usually include links to the official website which I can click on and find out more info for myself if I want to; since I’m already online that time. SMS-es tend to make me wary and they are normally short and do not contain much detail. =P

    2. I would not mind giving out my e-mail address. I’m alright with giving out my phone number and home address too since CROCS is a very well-known company with strong brand name. I would trust them to treat the personal data with respect and maintain confidentiality. =)

  • 1. I check my mail more than once a day. So, I’d always prefer email.

    2. Giving out my email would also be okay because if I get anything I don’t like, I can mark it as “junk”. 🙂

  • 1. direct emailing
    2. giving out emails are okay since if it’s really junk or spam, we can label those emails as such and we won’t get the emails again…

  • 1.for the best communiqué, i prefer by facebook because facebook is the most popular social network and i think now every internet user has facebook account.

2.I dont mind to giving out my personal details like an email, facebook acct, phone number or home address as long i know the company very well.

  • I’d say Twitter. From my personal experiences, it triumphs over Facebook, e-mail or any other forms of communication.

    1. Unless that person has very few friends or checks his or her Facebook account frequently, then chances are he or she might miss out on announcements made by a company.

    2. While I check e-mails frequently, I often delete e-mails I thought would be spam without opening them at all.

    3. I don’t know about other people, but the extension I’m using on Chrome currently for viewing Tweets enable me to check on updates frequently, including past Tweets made while I wasn’t looking – as opposed to Facebook where my News Feed is often swarmed by tons of status updates and other information.

  • 1. Hmmm… I would definitely go for Facebook simply because I’m a FB addict and my notebook is with me all the time! This is the easiest way to keep in touch with my friends and acquaintances so I’m online 24/7, which leaves me very little time to do anything else. If I want to pass on any info to them, it’s done in the blink of an eye!

    2. I’ve no problems giving out my twitter and Facebook accounts as those are my means of contact. I dislike spam SMSes clogging up my mobile’s mailbox, and that goes as well for emails. Too much junk mail to filter through, for me that’s not very productive.
